Recommend a mechanic in Canberra

I'm looking for a reliable bloke that's fair on price and will work for just Labor as we have all the parts already

  • If you don't mind a drive to Queanbeyan I highly recommend talking to Gary Shepherd Automotive. They are in the Yellow pages and have been around for decades.

When I used them I found they explained things simply, kept me informed of unexpected problems, very experienced, no scaremongering and didn't push for new parts.

Last time I was there was to ask them to machine my front brake disc rotors. The rotors were severely warped from track days at Wakefield park raceway.

    • Thanks mate. Will search for him on the book.

May help. I am far to cynical of mechanics to make a recommendation.

    • +1

LOL. Wish we could start a thread on "Recommend a dodgy Canberra mechanic to avoid" but I don't want to get OzBargain into any troubles.

    • Thanks for the link. Definitely a good resource. Fisher car care looks promising. Might have to give them a call

  • Don't get me started - I got charged $220 for a oil change and filter from a mob down there.
Costs me $70 to do at home but I was travelling so had no gear with me.

    • Wait which mob you talking about?

      • I think it's Ngunnawal country in Canberra; that'd be the biggest mob.

  • Sorry can't remember the name and just went through my card statements but they don't go far enough back.
It was some sort of chain like Mech Pro and in a industrial area round the Macgregor area in Canberra.
Not far from the Toyota dealer and I reckon it would have been cheaper there.
