iPad Air 2 Demo - Mistake Purchase of The Year (Please Help)

Yesterday I bought my first Demo Ipad Air 2 from Dicksmith. The counter guy says it is completely functional however I did not come to realise the problems that were about to arise after purchasing it at such a place.

Okay here goes… The sales guy says all I needed to do was to restore it on Itunes and update it. However, after downloading this software update a screen pops up and suggests that an error has occurred and that I had to make sure my internet connection is correct. FYI, I tried doing this 4 times and yet it still doesn't work!

What should I do guys, I don't think it was a good idea purchasing it at $500! Omg, stress overload!

Please help!

thanks!!

Oh and I have an image of the pop up screen. Down below.

  • Oh and I have an image of the pop up screen. But how do I post it?

    Go here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/113581/files

That's a page only you can access. You can upload and view your uploaded files. Once uploaded you'll have a link to the file which you can link back to on OzBargain.

    • Thanks Im trying to upload it!

    • Hey that link won't work. That page only you can see. You need to click on the picture itself, and use that URL.

E.g. here is something I uploaded ages ago.

    • OP, just so you know I've changed the picture you uploaded as it included the serial number for your iPad. You may want to delete the picture from your OzBargain account as well.

Wow, thanks Ice cream! Im going to delete it!

  • Have you tried giving Apple a call? They should be able to troubleshoot with you

  • If you do a google on this, much of the advice relates to having your anti virus software blocking access to iTunes.

    That might help

  • Guys, im going so return this item to Dicksmith. The sales guy sold me a faulty item. Is there anything I can do to make them compensate the inconvenience. I mean, I live an Hour away from the City. So travelling is a bitch.

You have next to no hope of getting compensation from DSE (they might give you a gift card ;).. Either take it to Apple, Google the error message and fix it yourself, or take it back to DSE.

  • Why not take it to Apple and have it fixed

Plus one on that. I would take it back to Apple and they will probably give you a replacement, it will probably be a refurb but it would be working. I don't think Dick Smith is really going to be interested in making up for your inconvenience, do you?

  • Also try downloading the ipsw file off apple
    Plug in iPad
Hit shift as you click software update
Select file and away you go
Also read up about putting iPad into dfu mode via internet

  • Guys thanks for the help. I actually fixed it after numerous phone calls to Apple Support. What I needed to do was disable Microsoft Firewall and you're good to go!!

Doh, wasnt that wgat I told you with my post above!!!

      • Sure, but don't forget Apples are computers especially designed for idio grown ups

I'm sure we can be better than this puerile mud-slinging.

  • My advice is save your receipt! Because the iPad had been activated prior to you receiving it. the warranty as far as Apple is concerned started from the initial startup date. Your receipt is your way of proving that you took ownership of the device a few days ago and not what may be nearly a year ago.

  • Thanks Alot guys, I appreciate the help. Especially rocky balboa
