      yep, all wow staff

  • Is it just staff or is it one of those family and friends offers? I still have some of the 10% physical gift cards from the promotion recently so combining them with this promotion would work well.

    • just staff for this one

    Excludes everything good.

(Serious) Is it just me who thinks that rewarding staff members by offering 10% off the prices of the store where they work, both slightly unimaginative and a bit stingy? Or is that kind of the point here?

    • Why do you think it is stingy? 10% discount for some items may result in an actual loss, or at least wipe out a significant amount of the profit margin.
Employers provide a discount and then get accused of being stingy…. That sounds like a sense of entitlement to me, not to mention just plain rude and ungrateful.

        Whoa, hang on a minute.

Wasn't BIG W offering 10% off for the general public as part of their friends and family discount? I.E: anyone could gain the same discount? (So far as printing off the flyer, anyone got the 10% off?).

The point I was trying to make (obviously I didn't make it very well) is to reward your employees and make them feel special and prestigious and in doing so engender a high degree of loyalty, respect and care for the company that they work for. I don't see how that occurs when the same reward is given to anyone who is able to print off a coupon. I think it devalues the intention of this particular reward for employees.

Further, the considerations you raise regarding losses on profit, though a valid consideration in certain contexts, seem to me to be somewhat irrelevant in this instance. For again, those same considerations would have been prevalent when anyone could have received the 10% off previously, and where they would have presumably done so in far greater numbers.

At any rate, I appreciate the banter, but not the personal remarks about me, which seemed unnecessary.

        • I think you are missing the point here, this sale is only for staff, not the general public. The fact that a previous sale was made available to everyone is irrelevant. Does that mean if a store had previously offered 50% off in a sale, then has sales with 33% the latter sale is not a bargain, and the employer is being stingy?

In regards to personal remarks they were about you specifically, but anyone who expects something for nothing, then criticise someone (employer in this case) when they do make a generous off.

        • @teardrops21:

BIG W has distinguished two separate discounts, I.E: for family and friends and the other for staff members. However, both discounts amount to the same benefit but where both groups do not share the same responsibilities.

I consider that for BIG W to indicate that an employee and a non-employee worthy of the same direct intended benefit, I.E; store discount, to be somewhat unreasonable and so the point I am trying to convey is thus.

It looks as if we're going to have to agree to disagree.

@Jawanzar: I agree that 10% off isn't much considering we already get 5% off but for such a large company where there are 2 discount cards in each family I think it's hard to give anymore.

They do have these numerous times a year though for woolies or big w. They used to have a page of special staff offers inc. Apple products for big w (and dse when it was around) but they don't seem to anymore.

@Jawanzar:what you seem to fail to comprehend is that this sale is for staff only not general public. If you can't understand that the there is no helping you.

          @teardrops21:

I'm not going to continue arguing with you teardrops21. That you keep directing unnecessary personal insults at me speaks volumes, so please go away.
