Frost Free Freezers

I am in the market for a frost free vertical or chest freezer. Say around 200 litres.

I've had a look in a few stores, I cannot find a frost free chest freezer (they are all manual defrost).
Masters had a very cheap 100 litre for $160 so that is my fallback if I don't find what I want.

On the other end of the price scale I found a Haier HVF260WH2 258L Upright Freezer
$699 delivered at Appliances Online

258 litres is probably more than I need, but its frost free.

I've never owned a Haier appliance, are they any good?

Based on Appliances Online prices, competitor freezes of this size are way over $1,000.

Any other recommendations at this price or less?

    • Not sure what I would do with a nun in a gas mask..

      kinky

      • Im a gas powered freezer by trade but can offer stealthy nun frost freeze on the side.
And I can keep going all day long ;)

        • Well before you overheat you should Google "Alexis Love"

        • @GreatWhiteHunter: you sir have offered me more than I ever could being a freezer for you.
P.s her teeth are bit funny, not haha funny but funny!

        • @dylanando: She is a great actress. I am a big fan….

        • @GreatWhiteHunter: You need a fan service now? I know a guy, He can come immediately and release freshness all over your face while you sleep, This a service you're interested in?

I will need to study this 'actress' later, Sara Jay is devine

  • This does nothing to answer your question, but how often does a chest freezer need to be defrosted? I know my upright freeze, on which the defrost is currently broken, needs to be defrosted every week, but a chest freezer isn't exposed to the nearly the same volume of air, so I would expect it to last at least a month?

I've got the defrost thing down to about 2 minutes work now. Rip everything out, stick a portable fan heater in, come back in 10 minutes =)

    • You make a good point. I don't have a non-frost free freezer so I can't really say.

I am guessing it probably should be done every 3-6 months, but in practice if I got one it would be done once a year. My greater concern is as the frost builds up the efficiency of the freezer reduces and also the frozen items tend to get icey too….

Frost-free means I never have to think about it, it just happens automatically.

Care to share if it's around still? Cheers!

Also totally agree: you should'nt buy a non-frost free freezer these days, waste of money (electricity) and time (defrosting).

    • It isn't on their web site and I didn't take a photo. But Heatherbrae had a 100 litre Esatto branded manual defrost chest freezer for $160 reduced from $199.

Masters have 20%+ off end of line appliances in their $10m+ end of range appliance clearance.

  • I bought a 160L freezer last year at second world online, mitsubishi upright frost-free white MFU160CWA. It is quite a good freezer. Have a look at their website.

  • I have a very similar Haier one (6 drawers, but no panel thing) and I think it was around $400 at Costco. Works well!
