New VW Golf - How much have you haggled down on a new car before?

Hey guys, got a new job and will need some wheels for it.

I don't want anything too snazzy so looking at the $20-25k mark and always like VW Golfs. The one I'm looking at comes to roughly $25k, includes 3 yrs warranty and roadside, and capped servicing. 2.8% APR too so not too shabby there.

I'm going to start my haggling in a few days and was just wondering, what do people normally manage to haggle out of new car dealers.

Cheers,

Lex

  • It's usually on the up sell they try and get you. Oh you need this protective paint etc etc

Yeah, a little surprised that the only colour you get as standard is white. Anything else is $500 more.

  • Call Spack.

    • Sorry, I have no idea what this means, other than the urban dictionary type definitions. Can you elaborate?

There's a user here by the name of Spackbace. I believe they might be closely associated with cars and car dealerships.

        • Ahhh, bingo. I get ya. Thanks for the tip. :)

          NP :)

        • Just a car salesman over in WA, and don't know about VWs, sorry OP!

  • Be careful with VW servicing costs, I have a diesel Tiguan and it costs a fortune to get serviced $2k total for the 105km and 130km!

    • Thanks, will ask them for the breakdown. I think the first couple are $330, then slight increases but yeah, will have a word. Thanks again

      • Should be capped price servicing on non-diesels from memory, it's on the website. As others have mentioned, dont fall for the paint/rust protection etc.
Get them to throw in tint and mats, full tank of gas etc.
Get a few quotes to get an idea of who is charging less for the car and more for "dealer delivery" - there's usually plenty of room to move in the dealer delivery side as it's all pure profit because they do stuff all work for their money.
