Shower filters - thoughts and recommendations

I currently have a cheap shower rose like this one http://www.bunnings.com.au/brasshards-wels-3-star-all-direct… and would like to replace it with something like this http://www.bunnings.com.au/estilo-wels-3-star-single-functio…

I am also considering getting a shower filter.

Would this be straight forward to replace? Any tips on shower filters, or thoughts in general would be greatly appreciated.

As long as the two shower heads/roses have the same connection it's quite simply a matter of unscrewing one and screwing on the other. Couldn't be more simple.

What's the rationale behind getting a shower filter?

I suspect a shower filter is designed to wash the cash out of your wallet more effectively. For normal city tap water I suspect it wouldn't do anything.

unless the OP is talking about a flow restrictor.

Take as you will and discuss / have fun.

      • Oh.. Dear.. God..

Just as I thought, specially designed to flush away the cash in your wallet. But I'll have to get one as I'll instantly feel fitter and younger after having a shower with one fitted. ::eyeroll::

    • Already mentioned below, but don't forget the plumber's tape!

I did exactly the same thing and have got the exact same shower head. The new shower head is not the best. It started getting loose after about 1 year of use, so every once in a while I have to adjust the shower head and tighten it up to get it to stay in one position. I would suggest you shell out some more money and get a better one. On the plus side, I think my old shower head didn't have a filter so it was pushing out a lot of water, this new shower head seems to have limited the water coming out, saving me money.

All you need is some plumbers tape and a wrench. Not hard to replace. But I must warn you that I have been notified before by other members of OzB that some plumbing work cannot be done DIY, you have to get a plumber to do it. I am not sure if replacing a shower head falls under this.

i was told by Bunnings staff to stretch a few dollars beyond Estilo brand.
Says a lot when their own staff don't approve of their own products.

Hmmm… looking through the Bunnings selection. Other brands that is not Estilo would cost twice as much. Maybe I should wait for Masters to have a plumbing sale. They seem to be cycling through discounts on their range categories.

Don't forget plumbers thread- use heaps of it- ie 10 twists. It goes on clockwise

It's pretty much screw off and screw the new one on.

As Altomic says don't forget the teflon tape.

I would stay away from the cheapy shower heads. I used to buy them too but the joint/hinges or whatever would become loose after only a few months and the head would keep on drooping.
