The wife and I have decided to bit the bullet and renovate our home rather than try and buy a new place at some crazy price.
We are in Melbourne and our plan is to demolish the property, but maintain the facade due to a heritage overlay.The sad reality is…We just don't know where to begin!! Can anyone recommend any guidelines, perhaps tools or sites on the web I can use. I am essentially looking for some sort of How To guide to get me started and help set a direct.

Speak to some architects and darftsmen around your area.
Ask them to show you previous jobs similar to what you want.
This will ensure they know how to deal with your local council.
