Second Hand Computer Prices

I am going to sell my PC, it is decent but a few years old. I am surprised at the prices of similar specified PC's on sale used. People still paying good money for them.

I'm deciding between selling the PC as a whole, or in pieces. I could get more money in pieces, but it would take longer to sell.

Anyone have any idea as to why old PCs are still keeping their value? Maybe because PCs haven't advanced that much in the past few years?

sell it as a whole unit - IMO

    • Save the hassle?

pulling apart, re boxing, static bagging and posting the shit is way to much hassle. And then you have to worry about someone breaking it if they installed it wrong and then dealing with them assuming you sold them something DOA. Sell it as a unit, and let them see it in operation.

    AUD getting weaker.

I sold my Core i5 2500k for a whopping 200 including postage. I paid $225 for it new.

The LGA1155 mobo I sold $110 for, and it was $129 new.

The reason the value is kept high is because the prices of new computer parts (especially Intel stuff) are substantially higher than it used to be, thanks to AMD taking a nosedive in market share and also a devaluing AUD. A unlocked Core i5 6600k is $335 and a good motherboard is almost $180.

RAM is still cheap as chips though.

    • I love chips.
