What are you trying to purify, overseas dodgy tap water into drinking water, or take out the "local flavour" from your regular (drinkable) tap water? If you're dealing with serious water quality problems, (like bacteria and heavy metals) you'll probably need to boil and filter with a good filter designed for the specific issues, maybe even lightly chlorinate. If you just don't like the taste of safe water, you can use a Brita bottle from a supermarket or a regular bottle with a stick of activated charcoal in it.

    • It is for overseas (India) tap water.
I was hoping this product would do the trick

      • Not sure exactly what you're likely to meet there, India is a pretty big country! Some other alternatives at biome, according to their table a good filter will work with city water, but not if you're out in the country. In that case, buy local bottled water or drink the local beer.

    • Can i use activated charcoal tablets to purify water? or does it have to be a stick?
tabs are available in chemistwarehouse ..
      cant find sticks

      • Activated charcoal tablets are used to treat some kinds of poisoning, and in an unregulated and unproven way to treat high cholesterol and gas.

Both sticks (sometimes called binchotan) and tablets are only suitable for water that is safe to drink, because the water isn't forced through the filter, and so not all of it will be 'cleaned'. Filter bottles and tap attachments may contain activated charcoal too, which is fine because all the water has to pass through the filter (and the filter will have to be replaced regularly).

You can get the sticks from biome, nourished life and the lab organics but they're pricy!

  • Buy a Life Straw and then you can drink your own poop.
