Samsung Series 6 Full HD 50" Plasma $999 @ DJ - PS50A650

500

I found this at DJ Sydney CBD store yesterday. Not sure if it's available anywhere else.

It's an older model but it's still a great price for 50" 1080p plasma. In fact, first time seeing a 50" plasma less than $1k.

  • Doubt there is many left, probably would sell you the display model down here in Melbourne

nice find. 50" plasma's aren't hard to come by for less than $1000 (Dick Smith, Good Guys and JB all have brands that are $999) but you won't find anything like a Samsung/Sony/Panasonic Full HD (1080p) 50" plasma at this price.

  • Wow, first the panny plasma at $1350, then this, at $999. For 50", this is really really a bargain.
Might go down later to have a look at the plasma quality. I personally would prefer a LCD over plasma though. Hoping that there will be some LCD bargains soon.

    • 50" LCD would be way more expensive. Cheapest 50" LCD I've found is about $2500.

      • Yeah. For that price range, it will be a bargain for a 40" or 42" Full HD and 100-200hz LCD.

      • remember a fews days ago 55" samsung lcd for less than $2000?

  • Woot! Thanks! =D

  • correct me if i am wrong, but didnt the 'A' series come with 3 years warranty as well?

    • 2 yr warranty for A series plasmas , 3 year for lcds

  • Only the display model left. Work in DJ's Head Office had a look, not the best 50" picture, but for that price, not bad. We had a VIP night last night could have got the tv for $850 if i had bought it yesderday.

    • I wouldn't have thought twice if I saw it for $850 :)

    • And you can't judge the picture with DJ's setup. They had no hdmi connection, no HD feed, no calibration.

  • damn it!! lol I paid $1500 for mine 3 months ago @ Good Guys! Was a good price at the time.

    Good find

  • is this for all david jones stores?

  • For a branded 50' Full HD Plasma for $999, that's really a bargain even it is an old model.

  • called DJ in Perth, city mall store, only one display model available, 5% discount = $950, 6 months on display

  • +1

    got one from Adelaide DJs
thanks……now i spent more money……this website is not a bargain site! ive spent more on here in the last 6 months than i have in the last 3 years!!!!

    • lol. I agree. Enjoy ur new TV.
Did you buy a display model or brand new?

  • brand new :-)

  • and they had 8 left when i called (at warehouse in Woodville)

  • It is very tempting at this price.

Should I get a LCD or a Plasma?? Plasma's prices had been dropping a lot recently.
Things about plasma technology that I'm aware of are the
    - power consumption
    - flickering on still images
    - possible burn in, etc
which is why I am leaning more towards LCD.

But at $999 for a Samsung brand 50", you can't complain that much can't you. If anyone could recommend any good bargains on a 40" and 100hz above Full HD 1080p LCD TV?

    • Definitely LCD is the way to go. In addition to the problems listed by you, glass reflects whatever is in your room in front of TV.

  • This is a PS50"A"650. Since then there has been the PS50"B"650 and now we're onto the PS50"C"650. So realise the television you are thinking of purchasing is 2 series old.

  • David Jones are funny like that. I went into the Karrinyup ( WA ) store a few months ago and they have the oldest stuff there. Sony models that were 3 seasons old at full price. They have absolutely no stock control , but every now and then you get an ok deal.

Heres a review for that tv from 02/12/08…..

    insane price

  • I would buy in hertbeat if I didn't get the panny s10 46" less than 3 months ago for $1000

    • Where did ya get them from for $1000? :)

      • Do a search here for HN sale they had the panny s10 46" for $1100. Was able hagle with jb for $1000.

  • Looks like a great deal.

Plasma is great. Owned a 50" for a couple of years.

There was a sony 52" Z5500 LCD for an awesome price about two weeks ago, however after reading all the good reviews, it really wasn't very impressive.

Infact it didn't seem like a step forward at all.

The beauty of plasma is fantastic blacks, no need to stuff about with changing setting for motion control for different sports, games etc as plasma doesn't have the same motion issues. Plenty to like and plasmas are very difficult to burn in now. You really have to go out of your way to cause issues.

Just my thoughts after looking to change across and checking out the ranges.
It seems like their is loads of marketing spin in regards to new TV's but the results appear more like small incremental steps rather than significant change.

Are plasmas worth thinking about, without doubt!

    • couldnt agree more mate! Love Plasma picture quality over LCD or even LED anyday! LCD and LED sucks BIG time ! the 100hz motion crap is bull$hit and make movies looks like CGI LOL. And still a lot of people not that tech sevvy thinks that LCD and LED are "newer" tech than plasma, what a joke! hahaha

  • damn missed out!!! only display models left!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARRRGHHH!!!!!!!

  • There is still a display model left at the Bondi Junction store.

At first I had thought the sales assistant had said they had one in a box, but they didn't, it was just the one on the wall. He very kindly found a long HDMI cable for me and hooked up a nearby Blu-Ray player. I must say, it looked pretty good - it's getting to the point now where I am almost ready to switch from CRT to plasma (only because of the size limitations of CRT though; if a 50inch tube were possible I would never switch!).

The price on the wall said $1599 or something, but the computer said $999 yesterday (Sunday 25th).

I would have probably handed over the cash if it weren't a display model. I'm just not comfortable buying a tele that probably already has 3000 hours on it.

    • someone mention a VIP night at DJ…how could I get in to that???
