Multiple Entries on USA ESTA

Hi Guys,

For anyone who has recently traveled to USA and then perhaps ducked into Canada / South America for a few days before re-entering US, do we get automatic multiple entries to USA on the ESTA or is there something else we need to do for multiple entries?

Thanks.

The ESTA is single entry only

You can enter multiple times on the same ESTA

  • You can enter multiple times on ETSA but it is for air travel only. If crossing by bus/train/car you will need to pay for a visa even if you have a ETSA(although you may not actually need one when crossing by land - at least a couple of years ago).

One thing to watch is you also only need to pay for the land multiple times that you only need to pay once per visa free period, however when someone checked my passport and sent me to the line to pay(after I had previously), it wasn't until I got to the front that I was told I didn't need to be in this line and I could either pay again for another or join the back of the other line…

    • Thanks Zappy,

We'll be flying in and out of Canada so I guess we should be ok. Cheers.

      • As long as you are then only crossing the border by land once in Canada and you are Australian(or citizen of another country that takes part in VWP) then it's fine!

  • +1

It's multiple use until expiry, we drove from USA to Canada and back last September and re entered USA with esta no problems. We reapply every couple of years when it gets close to expiry, we always transit in USA when going to South America

    • Thanks Stewardo

      • My only advice with the ESTA is keep the hard copy with you when you fly in South America, airports in Australia and USA often won't ask to see it as the computer systems are linked, how ever some airports in developing nations need to sight the esta paperwork before they check you in for your flight to USA

        • Yep, i've printed everything! Traveled to Africa a few times and have had issues so I tend to keep a physical copy of everything. Thanks for the tip!

  • Yes, you can enter multiple times on ESTA, even by land.

If you are Australian, and you enter the U.S. by land from Mexico or Canada, ESTA is not technically not required BUT you will need to complete the I-94W form.
However, if you already have an approved ESTA, you don't need the I-94W form.

We drove from NY to Montreal and back to NY last September with ESTA, no problems.

    • Thanks Wkapri
