    Excellent game, loved it.

you had my + at PS Vita :D

    • +1

Same. Haven't turned on my Vita since Persona 4 Golden… but oh man what a game. Worth buying a Vita alone for that

      • did you find Persona 4 got incredibly repetitive? I stopped playing because of that (the dungeons were all the same) but am yet to meet anyone that didn't like it..

        • I guess a little near the end the dungeons did get repetitive… but to be fair I only played it through once.

I was more amazed by the story, style, amount of personas you could combine/create etc.

        • I agree. It got extremely repetitive and found myself losing interest and stopped playing.

Thanks, Scaregdearimasu, I've been waiting to buy this on Vita at a good price. By the way, it's slightly cheaper than it was on sale on the AU PSN earlier this year.

  • Cheers OP. $21.69 delivered for me on Vita (to Melbourne).

  • Dont think just buy. What a fantastic game

    • +1

Don't think just buy. That's the ozbargainers motto.

Thanks, OP! Been waiting forever for JB to drop their price but this is much better. Am I correct to assume games on BTB are Australian stock unless specified as an import?

    • BTB are awesome for this, if you are in adelaide they even let you swing by and pickup from them at mile end.

  • +6

    El Psy Kongroo.

  • Aus rating on the game though?

  • Arguably, Chaos;Head was a better VN. Even then, I believe this is great price for a quality VN as this. I still rate Cross+Channel the best VN ever, though.

    • Cool can't wait for them to bring them over.
I want them to bring over all the Science adventure series.
Without spoiling anything how do you feel about Muvluv?
I'm looking forward to the localized vita release soon.

      • Apart from the blatant anti-American sentiment of Japanese in the plot, it is a decent mech game series. The problem is that you don't get to play a robot so if you are a mech game fan, I suggest you to look somewhere else. This is a game for someone who is a huge fan of modern fighter jets and likes watching every character getting decked without mercy.

  • Sold out on Vita :(

  • Missed it

    • Missed only the vita version. The ps3 version is great too.
I played that version since I wanted to see the art assets at their max resolution. Not to mention the west pretty much never gets pure VN's on home console.

      • Yeah I picked up a copy for the PS3. Would have liked both :). But happy with this buy.

    • +1

      Vita version is back now.

      • +1

Thanks. I quickly snared a copy when I noticed it was back up for sale. Tried to resist but couldn't.

  • whats a VN?

    • Visual Novel would be my guess?

      • Yes a VN is a Visual Novel.
A VN could be considered close to a choose your own adventure book.
The game basically is CG art backgrounds with character art showing up and the characters talking to each other to progress the story with background music. In this VN the characters voices are their original Japanese voice actors so you won't be able to understand the words from that but you can understand inflections and emotions from the VA. English subtitles are included in the western release of this so you can read along.

Basically This is a Visual book with Voice acting, art, music and multiple endings and you need to make the choices that get you to that ending as well as the True ending.

If you missed the Vita version, http://www.ozgameshop.com/playstation-vita-games/steins-gate… $26.99 not including delivery.

    • They also have the limited edition version for $31.49.

      Although, are these Australian stock?

      • +2

Pretty sure it's UK stock; local stock has (Australian Stock) in the name. That and I don't think we ever got a limited edition.

        • Good point.

From memory as well Ozgameshop has usually been UK stock. Compatible here still though I suppose. This game has no online component does it? So it may not be an issue being UK stock?

        • @Richy: Nah, region is rarely, if ever, an issue with VNs so you're all good. Personally I just like the Australian classification label more than pegi.

  • Mad scientist!!

  • Having both consoles, any particular version I should go for??

    • +1

Have family or embarrassed by the game? Choose vita version.
Want portability and the ability to pick it up and put it down within seconds choose vita.
Want the art at the highest quality available? Choose ps3 version.

  • Waiting for the ios or android version. Want to play it on tablet instead of vita.

  • +2

The Vita version is back. I just ordered it.

    • Thanks updated it now.

      • Back up to $56.95 :(

        • I ordered it for $19.19 for PSV version at 12:30pm today but looks like it changed the price after I bought it. : (

    • thanks, couldnt be bothered waiting anymore for tablet ed. Bought on Vita. Too good to miss out on

  • Could someone who's played this explain why it got MA15+ rating? It's a visual novel and I know there's no sex scenes in it.

What is it, violence? I've seen the anime, and apart from a corpse with a bit of blood in it, I can't see what could be leading to that rating.

    • Despite the lack of sex scenes there are still some sexual things in it that might warrant the rating.

Theres also that quote in the first 10 minutes of gameplay which seems out of no where. "Our souls fester like semen left to rot in the womb"

That's pretty minor though I'd have to say it was this
Don't Click unless you've played all routes.
      MAJOR SPOILERS HERE
All Aboard The Spoiler Train oh also NSFW if that wasn't obvious.
      MAJOR SPOILERS HERE

This part was really really dark and messed up.
In fact I kinda forget about this part when telling people to play it.

      • I don't know if that is MA15+ to be honest.

Visual novel is more like a book. In a book you can describe anything, no matter how vile, rape, torture, whatever, and there are no age ratings for books. Since it's all down to your imagination, nothing mature is actually being depicted. I'd argue a case that for a VN, the same would apply. Unless it is being depicted graphically of course, but I doubt that.

Kids learn about reproduction before 15 I think. Semen being inside a womb is just stating a fact. Their choice of words is as literal and non-offensive as possible.

I didn't click on your spoilers though. If it describes violence or dark stuff but doesn't show it, I still think it's overboard to slap MA15+ on it.

George Martin's books can get dark too. Or try a horror author. But there's no age gating on books. My argument is that VNs are just books. Text. And should be treated as such. Any kid is able to buy Clive Barker's books if they want. Everything bad is down to their imagination, so nothing horrific is being shown like in a movie or game.

Do you think the VN is good? I ask this as someone who saw the anime and thought it was decent but way overrated. I am a VN reader though, and more often than not when something exists in both VN and anime form, the VN is usually much better due to no length restrictions, and therefore being able to go into more detail.

        • +1

I agree books are a completely different. They don't get rated either which when everything else is rated is kinda weird. I suppose now that I think of it ratings started as a way of protecting kids but why did it start with movies. I actually did read some pretty dark books when I was a kid but why is it books are considered to be ok but not other media?

I also think perhaps we're still at a point where games are wrongly considered for kids first with some adult games instead of games being for everyone and maybe the rating board will rate something higher than necessary because of that. Of course it could come down to something as simple as very conservative person on the ratings board or something like that.

There's not really any CG in game that required that high of a rating though. So it could really only come down to the text of a game.

I watched the anime like 9-10 years ago and though it was awesome. I played the VN last year I think. Is the VN is very good yes. It's slow at the start where they are introducing characters and eventually it picks up. I think a lot of people get discouraged with that start up though.

The VN as always has more of the universe than the anime ever could. Multiple bad and good ends. Finding true end is basically impossible with out a guide or godly luck and I don't know how that could be considered a good game mechanic. If you enjoyed the anime and want more I'm sure you'll find much more to enjoy in it.

        • @Scaregdearimasu:

I watched the anime like 9-10 years ago and though it was awesome.

I don't think the anime is more than 4 or 5 years old, but I saw it a few years back myself. Except my anticipation level was so high because even though the fansub was available, I waited over a year for it to officially release first (dubbed) because I didn't want to steal it. Everyone had said it was one of the best anime ever made, so imagine a year and a half of waiting with that expectation… I thought it was good, but my hype level was through the roof and I ended up disappointed that it wasn't more. It's not in my top 10 favorite anime of all time even, and has so far put me off from playing the VN.

It's slow at the start where they are introducing characters and eventually it picks up. I think a lot of people get discouraged with that start up though.

This is pretty much how a lot of VNs are set up, especially the longer ones. The ones that start quick and maintain their brisk pace are usually 10 hour experiences or less.

The VN as always has more of the universe than the anime ever could. Multiple bad and good ends.

This is pretty much the reason an anime can never be a substitute for a VN's complete experience. But as far as I know the Steins anime followed the true route and I've more or less had that spoiled for me now.

Finding true end is basically impossible with out a guide or godly luck and I don't know how that could be considered a good game mechanic.

Yep, that's also common in VNs. I always play with a guide anyway. I don't mind that the choices aren't mine, because I would always go back and see every route anyway, so it doesn't matter that I didn't make my natural choices the first time around. It's more important that I get a good route order, than to be free to make my own choices on the first run.

If you enjoyed the anime and want more I'm sure you'll find much more to enjoy in it.

          *** SPOILERS OF S;G ANIME!!! ***

I'll probably get to it eventually, but there's a lot of VNs above it in my backlog along with other games. I do hope the writing is really good and the alternative routes are good. As I was watching the anime, I really didn't want him to be romantically paired up with Kurisu. I preferred Mayuri first, but Suzuha and even Moeka would have been good choices over Kurisu. Even the shrine maiden who's actually a dude I could see him settling down with in an alternative end where he doesn't change her back to a boy.

  • Bugger.. I bought this and can't play it because it wants me to update my vita to a higher version. I want to keep my emu functionality. Surprisingly I also have j-stars and it didn't want me to update to play

    • Which firmware version do you have on your vita?

      • its on 3.36

        • I read it on forums as long as you create a bubble and take a backup, you can upgrade to latest firmware and you still have access to the emu

        • @EdwardLim:

thanks, its somthing i'll have to read up more on. apasrently the newest upidate blocks bubbles.

    • Dang that's a bummer.
I wouldn't want to update in your position either.
Have a ps3 to play that version instead?
Or you can pick up a PSTV when it becomes cheap down the line.

I found out about the vita firmware being on cart and "required" when I tried one of my games a while back. Was quite shocked as I didn't know they were doing that on the vita platform. Had to update to play it but it was already past being exploited anyway so oh well.

      • yeah have a ps3 but I think I'll just wait for the tablet version to come out in English. :) Will just keep the vita game as part of my collection anyway. The blueblaze i bought required an update as well but i'd rather keep emu functions.
