FragranceX - Are They a Scam Site?

Anyone had any good experiences with them?

I ordered an in stock item which was supposedly sent by air mail almost a month ago. I got the standard "there can be shipping delays" type response when I queried the length of time.

I notice a couple of bargain posts about them for last year but nothing else. A web search brings up many complaints but they seem to have been around a while.
I'm currently in the process of a dispute with them now via PayPal but I'd like to know if they acually worked out for anyone else here?

Try http://www.fragrancenet.com/ I've used them a few times and am pleased with all my purchases. Shipping took 2-3 weeks. They have good prices compared to other online stores that deliver to Australia.

    • same as ozhunter, cheap and quick delivery i have recently bought 3 colognes on different occassions each taking no more than 2 weeks to receive which i think is great.

Plus i like the junk mail i receive with purchases like cologne testers and discounts

Damn, they are obviously fraudsters. Surprised they have allowed to keep going so long. Have to hope Paypal will refund me now.

    • I ordered items in July 2010 and they haven't arrived so don't buy from fraudster_fragrancex.
I've emailed them and been told to be "patient" and the goods are probably in customs and wait until they are returned to the company before they can resend. I've emailed twice and had the same response and the third email requesting reimbursement has been ignored by the company. Any luck with Paypal?

    • Hi, I ordered from Fragrant X on 8th February 2011. I am still waiting. Keep getting the same generated emails asking to be patient. I email every week and get the same lies. My advice to anyone - DO NOT BUY FROM THEM. They take your money then lie.

      • Hi . I ordered some cologne from FragranceX and they told me it was sent on 17th Feb. I also got the same emails about being patient and maybe delays due to customs etc. I paid via paypal but was too late to put in a grievance as it was after 45 day. I had given up and thought I'd got ripped off for $52.00. To my surprise the package turned up 3 months later in perfect condition and was postage stamped 17th Feb. as they told me. This is the first time I've had to wait so long for a package to turn up. It obviously wasn't their fault. as it was posted by them on the day they informed me. Lesson? pay for registered or tracking mail. If you need to be absolutely sure about getting your package. Good luck.

  • They are legit. It just takes long to ship.

That complaintsboard "Charged me $10 for shipping" is a lie. International shipping is free on fragrancex no matter what your spending is.

As a frequenter on basenotes.net and perfume forums, they have been recognised by many forum members that have identified their perfumes as legit.

To be honest, I have only ordered my first product from them yesterday and am quite excited to see it arrived. I don't need it curretnly so I don't mind waiting, I'm prepared to wait for the cheap price.

However, maybe your item got lost in the post. In this case fragrancex's support is crap, they will only give you the date they sent it out on repeatedly and automated responses.

  • Stick with strawberrynet for cheaper perfumes, they are good.

  • +1

I've ordered twice from FX with no dramas . Saved a lot and everthing arrived within a couple of weeks . Also used strawberrynet as well with no problems . FX are cheaper though . Do a search for coupon codes as both sites usually have valid coupons floating around .

  • Well still nothing from them and paypal have now refunded me so I will steer clear of this outfit.

It seems from several of the complaints I found that a favourite trick is to send an empty package then describe their three stage checking process supposed to verify what has been sent . My advice is avoid!

    • After reading so many issues with the company I wouldn't buy from them. If they have a number of refund complaints via PayPal they're likely to lose their PayPal acct anyway

  • I have never purchased from them but made an enquiry once. They did not respond to my enquiry but started spamming the hell out of me.

  • I've ordered from them before with no problems at all. They have the cheapest prices I've found but of course if anyone knows of a cheaper place then let me know.

  • Hello
Keep in mind sometimes things get lost in the post.
I had a dispute with a person a few months ago thru Paypal.
He said his order never arrived.
I was suspicious that he may have given me the wrong address, so i asked him thru paypal to advise me of his shipping address.
He refused to so I guess he was at fault, and the dispute ended in my companies favor.
So if you can try to get your purchases sent via express post or courier so there is a tracking number you can track.
Sometimes its cheaper to send express post to a customer than it is via regular post..

    • -1

Can't imagine it would ever be cheaper internationally. The point of this outfit is they advertise free postage, if you had to pay courier or express post internationally it would be cheaper to buy locally.

Give the number and nature of complaints I found (as a result of this thread) it seems unlikely to be a simple "lost in the post"

  • I've just got my money ($90US) back on a product I ordered early in April -lodged the PP claim late last week.

They kept using the "Customs" excuse etc. Bloody buggas!

    • Customs excuse —- Although I once order a palm pilot accessory from the US, in this case they sent me a replacement for the one I never received after much discussion, then 2 months later it turned up, it had gone ship mail.

That said I am not doubting your claim - if they were to send it via airmail, then they didn't live up to the agreement, and refund is justified anyway

  • Successfully ordered from them around 4-5 times previously. Usually very cheap and quick shipping, anywhere from 7-12 working days to arrive. Their prices are also very good compared with other sites.

Had an issue time before last, the product I ordered was out of stock, but they failed to let me know. I waited a couple of weeks before contacting them, if I hadn't would have been waiting forever. In hindsight though, they never sent an email confirmation that it had been shipped, but still not good. They re-funded the money straight away and ordered another product and was here within a 12 days.

The last order was on April 28, still haven't recieved my package as yet. I assume it is a delay with shipping worldwide due to the Volcano. Starting to wonder now though due to above comments.

As I said, never had an issue with postage before this and the products have always been legit.

    • I ordered mine on the 28th. Still haven't recieved it yet either, I have been having slow postage ever since that volcano erupted. It took 2-3 weeks for something to arrive from the UK where as it only usually take 4 days.

I checked that they sent a shipment of mail via boat to America when the first volcano eruption happen so that they could re-route it, which could of been the hold up. Still holding on though.

At OP have you actually got your item yet?

  • Wow is bizarre to hear something bad about them, I've ordered Safari from them pretty much every 6 months for several years and not had any issues. I dont sit by the mail box waiting for it to arrive so I cant say either way whether their shipping is good or bad. I order then forget about it, it shows up when it does, but thinking about it, it has never been excessive.

…and for what strawberrynet charges for the 75ml I can get the 124ml from fragrancex!

Sometimes you can just be unlucky ordering internationally… always use a credit card, any probs, after waiting the required number of days (30?) fill in a complaint form with your credit card company and forget about it, they credit you the money and take care of everything (from experience). Not a big deal.

  • No I never received anything though PayPal refunded me.

They didnt respond to any of my subsequent emails or anything within the PayPal dispute. I'd definitely be wary of using them.

    • did paypal charge you some fee for this refund?

      • No fee for Paypal chargeback, only buyer protection do they charge you a fee.

  • 2 Months !! my order finally came =.=

    • so did mine - looks like it was a postage issue from the stickers.

  • Took a while, but I recieved my order.

  • They are legit but based in overseas. We recommend buying your perfume and fragrance from Australia-based online stores. Check us out www.meLovePerfume.com.au ,based in Melbourne and we offer fast flat rate shipping $6.95 Australia wide

  • Just thought I would add my experiences with them. I first bought products from fragrancex around Christmas 2009, I thought it was a scam because i ordered it in november and still had not arrived by chrismas. it eventually arrived mid-jan. I have since ordered several products from them, on some occasions it has literally taken less than 5 days to arrive. I guess they take more time in busy periods, but for mine they are certainly legit.

  • anyone tried
    http://www.feelunique.com/
just would like to know because postage is free and its quite cheap

Have ordered twice from fragrancex…both times received the goods, but both times a very long wait.

It's always worth checking http://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/home.asp as they are sometimes cheaper than the overseas stores.

eg, paco rabanne black xs…100ml edt
chemist warehouse $39.99 instore, (extra $5.50 to ship)
    Fragrancex $52 shipped

    • i wanted to buy the Paco Rabanne One Million 100mL, approx $80-$105 here , but @ feelingunique.com the 200mL is approx $85 (depending on currency conversion) and 100mL at approx $65, but on there is no PayPal.
Saw this website at MyMemory website, and also they have 10% Coupons if you look around.
I havn't ordered from them yet though.

  • Hi everyone

Here is our experience with Fragrancex.com

Fetch a Bargain decided to trial Fragrancex.com free shipping delivery time (which comes with no shipping tracking number)

We purchased a Christian Dior Jadore 100ml (tester) product.
Fragrancex.com states delivery is 7-12 business days for overseas delivery from USA

    • We placed an order on the 11th of November 2010
    • It was shipped on 15th November 2010
    • We still have not received this product, and the date of this forum post is 6th of December 2010

We sent a email to Fragrancex asking what is the situation on our product, and their reply was

"Thank you for your email and recent purchase from FragranceX.com. I do apologize that you have not received your order yet.

Some packages can be held by customs for inspections and they are not always timely in notifying the recipient.

Your package was sent by International airmail through the United States Postal Service and they do not provide a tracking service at this time.

Packages not received by our customers are always returned to us, but we must allow time for them to travel. We do appreciate your patience as this is out of our control.

We look forward to serving you again soon.

    • I think that's a standard e-mail….

I've found they always deliver the day after I send an e-mail querying non-delivery :)

I usually give them 4 weeks before I start to get nervous…..

    • +1

I'd open a PayPal dispute - they'll try and stretch it out so you can't open one.

      • Opening a dispute will cost you nothing and covers your ass . you have 45 days , so don't let it lapse .

    • Update:

We have not received this product yet and the date is 16th of December 2010

We have also sent a second email to Fragrancex.com asking for an update and have not received a reply

      • As you are a rival perfume retailer, your motives for posting this information could be considered somewhat suspect…..

        • +1

          Hi Andy19363

You have a valid point, however they emailed Fetch a Bargain asking if we would like to do business with them and have them as our perfume wholesaler.

So we set up an account with them and decided to do a test of their shipping procedures to make sure they delivered what they state in their shipping info before promoting their prices on our website to consumers.

We have now closed our account with Fragrancex.com due to us still waiting for the one perfume we ordered on 11th November 2010 and it is now 22nd December with no reply to our second email asking for update on product delivery.

          Thanks

          Fetch a Bargain

        • -> Andy

    • We received our order on Friday 4th March 2011 after ordering on 11th November 2010 via Fragrancex free shipping method

The package had a postage sticker showing the cost of freight - $0.33
Probably why it takes so long to deliver

  • +1

The first time I bought from them I did quite a big order - I received it in less then a week (they used FedEx).

The second time I did a single item order - I still have not received my item and it has been almost a month - it's supposed to be a Christmas present too. Got a standard email when I enquired about it. Stay away if you are doing a small order.

    • Sadly my order still has not arrived and I have now opened a PayPal dispute. Don't think I will be ordering from them again.

      • Hi,did you get your money back from Pay Pal?

        • Yeah and in full. The order never did turn up

  • we (well my dad) found fragranceX last year after we frequently bought stuff off ebay. Used it about 4 times in the last year, including late November this year. Items came within 7 working days. We did do a large order of $500+, but yeah never had any faults with these guys?

  • I have bought from Fragrancex many times here in Australia. The longest it ever took was a month. Some orders came in a couple of weeks. So no problem. Prices for After Shaves,Colognes etc are fantastic.

Now,all of a sudden I placed a couple of orders, one 22nd Dec 2010. And the other 30thDec 2010. Even allowing for Christmas and New Year I am still waiting for both orders. That is 48 days for one,and 40 days for the other.
I have taken it up now with Pay Pal to try and get my money back as Fragrancex just send the standard email to say be patient.
God knows where these parcels sit for weeks on end. Not customs as suggested by them as I have contacted them and Australia Post. Or have they been sent in first place. I certainly won't be buying from them again. I checked out Strawberry.net and there prices are just as good as Fragrance x. So basically,I would stay clear from Fragrance X.

    • I have now waited 50 days for one parcel from Fragrance x,and 42 days for another. Today Pay Pal returned my money.
Will now have to try another company for colognes and perfumes for my wife. In other words, don't touch Fragrance x with a barge pole.

  • Hi everyone

    *before reading below:
Fetch a Bargain is store representative on ozbargain.com.au and a rival perfume seller to fragrancex.com

We placed an order for Christian Dior Jadore 100ml (tester) product before deciding to use fragrancex.com as our distributor (they emailed fetch a bargain asking if wanted to do business with them).

Fragrancex.com states delivery is 7-12 business days for overseas delivery with free shipping from USA

    • We placed the order on the 11th of November 2010
    • It was shipped on 15th November 2010
    • We still have not received this product, and the date of this forum post is 9th February 2011

So we physically phone called fragrancex.com on their number (dialled 0011-1-718-482-6970)
and this was the phone conversation below:

    • We spoke to a lady named Karen

    • She asked for our order number, we told her

    • She replied with "aaahhh…you ordered in november 2010…that was the worst month for us because of weather conditions. heavy snow/blizzards grounding flights/shipping etc and we didnt start sending out orders that were placed in november until mid december when weather cleared up"

    • We said ok….but its now February

    • Her reply "Yes i'm aware and that the parcel should arrive shortly"

    • We said ok and asked her what route does the shipping take

    • Her reply "if alot of orders are going to your area, its direct, but if not…it can go thru different routes thru different countries"

    • We said hmmmm ok….

    • Her reply "so if i can ask you to be patient a bit more…which is a big thing to ask since you have waited this long…we would appreciate it as your order is on its way, if it hasnt arrived in 2 weeks….call us and ask for Karen"

    • We received our order on Friday 4th March 2011 after ordering on 11th November 2010 via Fragrancex free shipping method

The package had a postage sticker showing the cost of freight - $0.33
Probably why it takes so long to deliver

  • I'm the one who started this thread. I'd refer everyone to this site (mentioned earlier on):

    http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/wwwfragrancexcom-c…

The issues are still happening and this appears endemic to their business and not an anomaly.

If you've got any sense you will steer clear and pay few dollars extra somewhere else.

  • I placed an order Van Cleef & Arpels First Perfume EDT 100ml with Fragrance X on the 28th February 2010.

Today is the 24th November and I have not received my purchase.

I have sent 4 emails and rung Fragrance X twice. I have been advised that due to the adverse weather conditions at the time of my order, that there was a delay in shipping to Australia and to please be patient!

Paypal have advised that I should take my claim to my Credit Card Issuer as I am outside the resolution period.

It is better to pay a little more to ensure that my order actually arrives in a timely manner.

    Prospective buyers, please be careful!!

    • Today is the 24th November

      February

I have been advised that due to the adverse weather conditions at the time of my order, that there was a delay in shipping to Australia and to please be patient!

LOL, 1 year and item is still not arrived,
blame on weather conditions my a$$

    • Should read "Today is the 24th February…"

Fragrance X provided a refund. Many thanks to the Better Business Bureau who contacted Fragrance X in regards to my order.

  • My order was delivered on day 8 after ordering - New York to Brisbane in 8 days. I paid the most expensive delivery fee but the whole deal was so much cheaper than anywhere else I was OK with that.

  • Please keep away from Fragrancex. They are fraud company. Fraud is defined: Paying for an item that is not received. That is Fragrancex.
I have purchased from their website 11 January 2011 and still waiting for my parcel (25 Apr)
I wrote at least 15 emails to them asking for refund and in return all i've got was always the same standard email, thanking me for my purchase and asking me to be more patient as my parcel is on its way to me,…or various excuses such as customs, or because of weather conditions, or Customs and Border Protections is undertaking a three month campaign to ensure that existing exemptions to pay GST and customs duty on certain imported goods under $1000.00 are not being abused or exploded…etc.etc.
They are really disrespectful and never acknolwledged that I am too patient indeed and that I am entitled to a refund as they did not deliver on their promise 5-14 business days delivery. I paid $18 for shipping and they are telling me that there is no tracking number.

Anyway, now in the process of getting my money back through my visa card - long 120 days wait but at least i can hope for refund.

Please do not trust Fragrancex, prices are cheap but it is too good to be true. You are taking risk of wasting your money. They are unreliable…

  • I ordered a foundation from Yves Saint Laurent from them last month, around late August 2011.

I paid $ 119 on my credit card, and they sent me a reply saying that my order has been packed and dispatched. But I was surprised and taken aback because they had written that the order was not able to be tracked! One of the reasons I had ordered from them was precisely because it had a little " track your order" area on their website.
    This is what they wrote:

'In order to provide you with the lowest cost shipping to your country your order was shipped by air, but without a tracking number. We appreciate your patience as your package leaves the USA by air, clears customs in your country, and is delivered to your address. Thank you for your patience as we have no way to track your package once it leaves our warehouse.'

It was then that I looked at your site, and was very worried and regretted that I had not read your site before ordering, as I had assumed FragranceX was a legitimate business.

However, when I placed my details in the track your order site they provide, they had actually posted a tracking number that opened into an Australia post website. I was thrilled, but when I put in the tracking number, it came up as an invalid number!! I tried many times and it kept coming up as invalid.

I was upset, and I sent them a strongish letter telling them that I wished I had read your site before ordering with them, and that sending out untrackable orders was not acceptable etc etc.

I didnt communicate with them much after and decided that I would always check out a site before I did business with them.

The invalid number linking on to Australia post puzzled me somewhat, and in a few days time, I tried again.
This time the numbers changed, and linked on to the site!! I was amazed to see it stating that the package has been cleared and is on board with the driver!!!!

And sure enough, on the same day, September 9th, the package arrived intact and in excellent condition!!

I was so pleased. I think I ordered on August 25th and it arrived on September 9th.

But, I have decided I will never order with them again. I did not like their initial response about the tracking number, and I certainly dont like all the feedback on your scam site.

I thought I should post this here, because, from MY experience, they seem to be a legitimate site that delivers their goods in excellent condition, and in a reasonable time.
I also felt guilty that I wrote them a strong letter when their tracking number initially came up as invalid in the Australia Post site.

So, I dont know if this post is useful feedback, but I thought I should send it to you…

  • Just wondering if anyone has recently purchased fragrances from FragranceX recently? I'm after a few fragrances which are naturally cheaper overseas than from Australia. I've read the numerous issues people have had with FragranceX and their relatively slow shipping/postage times.

However, on the FragranceX website, they claim to be able to deliver to Australia and New Zealand within 5 days if your order is either under 2lbs or over $250 (via DHL). Can anyone attest to their claim?

    • well if u read some of the comments above, people have noted that they have received their shipments from big orders which might be bcos to they are sending it via DHL.

I actually used them a while ago (maybe 5 years ago?) and had no issues with delivery times for one or two fragrances i ordered - obviously times have changed!

  • I know this looks suspicious but I signed up to comment purely because this is the thread I read when I was waiting on my stuff. I ordered two CK Be deoderant sticks from Fragrance X on 13/11/2012. Total cost $39.90. I paid $42.59 for the trackable shipping. I was okay with this because my husband pays $40 per stick for Issey Miyake deoderants at Myer and I literally cannot find CK Be deoderant sticks anywhere except online. I'm pleased to report that they arrived safe and sound on 19/11/2012. They are legitimate, too.

I wouldn't trust free shipping. I know it was an exorbitant cost for the shipping (more than my two items!) but in my opinion it was worth it to know it would get here quickly! :)
