Just a quick question about balance transfer.
I'm about to apply for AMEX card a do balance transfer but the card I want to "pay off" currently has no money owing.
If I request for example $4k balance transfer will the other have +$4k on it or the transfer will not happen?

Yes, it will work the way you propose. There's no way amex can know what the balance is on your existing card, the BT is just treated as a payment to your card like any other.
A warning: If you're planning on withdrawing the 4k as cash from the CC that is now in the black, then first check with your CC company as they may still charge you a withdrawal/cash advance fee, even though it's not really a cash advance. Have read stories here from other ozb'ers who have had to jump through hoops to get access to their money (and on the flip side, have read other stories where it's been free and simple without any fee).
