Opinions on ALDI Whitegoods

My current cloths dryer (Westinghouse Laundromat 350) has started to trip the safety switch/circuit breaker/RCD/what ever you want to call it when I use it so I am looking to replace it (it literally came with the house when I brought it and I am willing to bet repairing is more expensive then buying new).

ALDI has a 4.5kg dryer on sale for $250 with a three year warranty. I rarely use the dryer but sometimes it is really handy when the rain just won't let up or I need something dry and the cloths horse in the house will take too long. Has anyone brought one of these dryers in the past or any other ALDI whitegoods? If so how have you found them? Are they worth the money for the occasional use that I need (I think six times a year at max) or am I better of getting something with a name on it?

You can probably diagnose the fault yourself, just by using google. It might be as simple as a fan belt, which you can replace for around $20 and <1 hour of your time.

Hard to beat that price - much cheaper than Beko/Haier/Other Chinese Brand. I can't see ALDI going anywhere for 3 years, so what do you have to lose?

If u need warranty support aldi directs u to the manufacturer.

But I d agree if u don't like it, u can return it in 60 days. But it's a hassle pushing it in store!

Sure, but I feel like for a $250 appliance (that has a cost price of $150), they wont waste their time trying to repair it - most likely go straight to a replacement/refund.

Also under consumer law, you can always hassle ALDI for a remedy, since they're the retailer.

        • Wow, if it has a cost price of $150 I'm sure as hell it's gonna break often. That's super cheapo material.

But I totally agree with what u said.

  • I haven't heard about the dryer specifically, I know someone with the ALDI dishwasher, and they say it works but it takes a bit too long and doesn't dry as well as they'd like.

So I would guess: It'll be slow, but it will work. Fine if you're only using it 6x a year!

  • They are alright

    • Are you talking from experience or know someone who has brought ALDI whitegoods?

  • Pedestal fan + clothes horse isn't as quick as a dryer obviously, but is cheap
