Cheap and Simple DIY Soundproof Enclosure for Loud Blender?

So, thanks to ozbargain I got a new blender (Auto-IQ). It's a great blender but it is really loud.

What cheap materials should I use to construct a cheap enclosure that I can place over the blender when it's on?

Thinking of getting some soundproof foam and coating the inside of a mdf based enclosure.

Soundproof foam and mdf are the first things that came to mind when I read your title…. if you want to avoid paying for mdf you could look around for free wooden pallets. Some of them have mdf sheets attached to them. I've built a dog kennel out of them before. Just an idea :P

  • use it in the shed

    • If I put it in the shed then I'm rarely going to be bothered using it :/

wear ear muffs or sell blender

    • I should've stated, the noise is mainly a concern for my family and neighbours when I use it early in the morning. It's a good blender, and most 1000W blenders will be just as loud.

Simple solution would be to find a storage cupboard that is close enough to power that you can store it in that location when not in use and just unravel the cord, plug it in and then close the cupboard when you need to use it..
If it's still too noisy, add some weather strip to the cupboard door to seal it better, and if it's still too loud, then add some foam to the cupboard doors/walls.

Are you seriously going to use the special box you make more than a few times before you just get annoyed with it and put up with the noise?
And where are you going to store the special box?

    • I thought about the cupboard idea but wasn't sure it would be a good enough idea, and I'm trying to plan for a long-term solution as the noise is currently bearable for my family but I've listened to it from outside and it is still pretty loud for neighbours in the early morning.

I would definitely use the box IF it was easy to put on, and I hadn't really thought about where I would store it since the box wouldn't be too large but probably still too large to keep on the bench with my blender. If I have to keep it somewhere else I think you're right, I probably won't bother using it after some time. I'll try the cupboard idea, thanks!

  • Do it outside

    • My concern is for neighbours mainly, should have mentioned.
