Portable Hard drive recommendation

Hi

Currently have a WD 1TB my passport which is dying abit (after like 5 years). I'm on the lookout for another one and would like some help. There are so many brands out there (seagate, transcend, WD) that I am struggling to sift through the lot.
My main requirement is that it will work with my Samsung Smart TV (ie play movies straight from the HD). I also prefer it to be USB powered rather than using a power adapter.

I'm leaning towards the WD 1TB my passport ultra (the latest generation). Is this a good choice especially with TGG selling it for $99 (less 20% off ebay discount).

Other suggestions also appreciated

Thanks

I have a Samsung smart tv as well and recently bought a portable seagate hard drive. Initially, the HD didn't play my movies and the box also said it was for Windows computers only. I have a Mac, not sure what OS you have. So the files I transferred from my Mac didn't play. A Google search proved to be an easy fix, You just need to reformat the HD on your computer and any hard drive you own will work on your Samsung tv. Takes less than a minute.

You should aim for a 2TB HD instead at your price range of $99. 1Tb for $99 isn't exactly cheap, maybe if it was two years ago. I'm more inclined to WD, and since you had a good 5 years with WD, definitely go for WD. The only reason why I got my seagate was because of dick's fire sale.
