Cannot tune channels on my TV

So, when I came to Australia I bought a Soniq from Jb Hi Fi and when I arrived home, I tried to plug the antenna in the socket. But there was no socket in my apartment BUT I could get all the channels anyways.

Now Ive moved to Toowoomba and in the house I rented, I want to watch the TV in the dining room instead of the living room, so I do not have a antenna socket near.

I thought I could watch the TV without problems but I get no channels at all. Actually Im a bit confused with this.

What can I do to be able to watch TV again? Buy a set-top box? Move back to Brisbane (jk)?

Thanks for your time :)

If you need channels, you'll need some sort of aerial… Either a socket on the wall, or good old fashioned 'bunny-rabbits'

Without an aerial, the tv can't find stations…!

So it wasn't plugged into anything but you got reception?! I've never seen that happen!

  • Not sure what your reception is like there but you could try bunny ears antenna from any electrical store like this http://www.jaycar.com.au/p/LT3134 but you would probably be better off buying a long coaxial lead and running it to the loungeroom where the plug is.

There is some apps that tell you how strong your signal is where you live.

Bunny rabbits can actually be easy for digital, where you either get the channel or you don't. Trick I've found is to have them flat and opposite each other, not in a V shape.

      Like so: ———v———-

  • What type of antenna are you using?

You will need an antenna in toowoomba, depending on where you are rabbit ears may not work.
If your up near where the tv repeater antenna are near Mt lofty you might get lucky but if your out near the university you will likely need at least an amplified portable antenna.
Congrats on the move to T-bar where we really do sometimes see 4 seasons in a day

  • Experiment with "rabbit's ears" and Blue-Tack until you can tune into most channels.

  • Have you tried turning it on and off again?

As opposed to turning it off and turning it on again?

Wait what? Like with others how the f*** you got reception without an antenna???

Ok so if you have a socket in the living room measure the rough distance +1 or 2 m and buy a long antenna cable and run it along the walls on the floor into your dining room.

  • "So, when I came to Australia …"
In any country if you are far from the transmitter you will need an antenna… any country.
In your new residence you may be in a low reception area and therefore will need an antenna.
If you are in a very low reception area or in a house with a tin roof or sarking then you will need an external antenna.
