Curved TV Wall Mount?

Hey all

Looking for a wall mount for my Samsung 55" Curved TV (weighs about 20kg without stand). I've looked around and the best one seems to be Vogel's TV Wall Mount #2345 https://www.vogels.com/en-au/c/wall-2345-full-motion-tv-wall…
Currently retails for $399 at Bing Lee ($319.20 after current eBay 20% tech discount).

I was initally looking at getting a Crest one but their customer service rep told me on the phone that none of their products cater for curved TVs specifically. There is one model that might work but I don't want to risk it. There are lots of wall mounts around that are under $200 but they seem to be for flat TVs only.

Anyone know of something sturdy but more affordable than the Vogel? Looking for something that can swivel and turn at different angles, but as we have a curved one options are a bit more limited so I'll consider normal wall brackets that dont move also.

Any advice appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

  • Is the TV using a standard vesa 400mm mount?

    • How do i find out? My partner isnt home so i cant ask him

      • Check the specs on the samsung website.

        • 2014 model so it's not coming up with specifics. Using Live Chat to find out

    • Samsung rep on the phone said it's compatible with Vesa 400x400. It's just on the generic tv stand it came with.

      • So basically it's compatible with any TV bracket. You just need to get one that will support the size & weight and has the actuation you want. Obviously make sure it's vesa 400 - but 99% will be for that size TV

        • Ahhh thanks for the clarification! I'll have a closer look at what's on the market :)

        • I'd hate for you to pay > $300 for a bracket… Check out Selby's..

edit: You should also consider how the bracket will attach to the wall… Location, studs, etc. You can't just put a screw into gyprock and expect it to hold.

        • @airzone: thanks. yeah looking at what the best option is and which keeps it closest to the wall so it doesnt look too funny with the curved edges out

  • So anyways, eBay, $30. I've purchased a few, they work great.

  • +1

Currently retails for $399 at Bing Lee ($319.20 after current eBay 20% tech discount).

my 40" TV wasn't even that much

  • Try http://www.uglycable.com.au great prices compared to the main stores.

    • Thanks, will take a look!

  • These guys have good mounts and cheap. http://www.selby.com.au/

The mounts sold at the places that sell TVs have massive markup because of the slim margins on the TVs. If you buy a $2000 TV and a $200 mount, they're probably making $100 on the TV and $150 on the mount.

Unless you have a specific scenario, I'd be questioning whether you need the extra complexity and cost of the full motion brackets - could you just have it mounted to the wall and fixed?

    • I was thinking of just a fixed one too, but if a motion one works then that would be extra nice for when we're in the kitchen etc.

  • Hi, where are you located? I'm in a suburb of Melbourne.
I had a guy mount 3 tvs, one being the curved 55, another on an extendable mount, and a Sonos playbar for $350. Possibly a tad expensive but he's insured, and All wiring hidden in the walls with cable plates either end.
The guy was brilliant and mounted above noggin height as required too. He was fast, clean and polite… He was also about 10 days wait time as he was booked out.
He sells just mounts too I believe and is very knowledgeable when it comes to which mounts to use. I was initially concerned how the curve would look mounted, especially from the side, but the right mount worked a treat.
Pm me for his details. My tv I believe is a ua55hu9000 model Samsung.

    • We have the same tv! Im in sydney. I'll pm you and see if he can give me some more advice.
P.s how are you liking the tv? Im thinking it's money well spent (got it brand new in 2014) but should have gone with the 65" haha

  • I'm not liking it a huge amount to be honest, but it's better than my 8 year old Samsung.
Not only are Samsung canning the Skype support, rendering the built in camera useless, I get a lot of bleeding of light from the edges etc.
Picture is awesome, but dark scenes really shows certain edge light sections.
Having said that, the 4k upscaling of even standard TV, or standard definition stuff played from my file server looks REALLY crisp. Even certain lower quality stuff just looks nicer too. Colours are good though. Love Plex and Netflix native on a TV now instead of via a playstation 3.

Mine is a Dick Smith one with an extended warranty, so will wait till the end is closer before looking in to warranty for the edgelight issues (Confirmed about a month ago that they'll honour the extended warranty too).

I agree with the 65". My room is only small and i was worried about the 55 being too big. I can see 65 in there no dramas though :).

    • So true about them stopping skype support!! I use it so my family can see my toddler easily, that way i dont have to chase him around the place with an ipad. Such a big let down. I could have sworn the camera used to be able to zoom in while video chatting, now i cant do it. I just hope they bring it back soon better than ever. With the light issue, i havent noticed it yet maybe because i mainly watch tv with lights on or dyring the day. Ill have a look tonight. I have to totally agree with you that the tv makes even the standard files appear better and much more higher quality. I only watch hdtv files that may be 300mb for a 40 minute episode and they look amazing, friends thought it was a 720p file.
Maybe in a few years we could upgrade to a bigger SUHDTV Samsung!
