How to Minimise Currency Conversion Fees When Shopping on Amazon

Really want to get my hands on a couple of items on Amazon. Unfortunately, they don't accept paypal and buying an amazon e-giftcard via paypal on gift card sites is only available for US verified paypal accounts. Don't want to use my debit card because the currency conversion fees are crap. Last time I bought 2 ESTAs to the US ($14 each) and it came out close to $40 AUD - no idea how they got that value.

Are there any methods to make purchases on Amazon so that conversion fees are minimised? Are there any visa cards I can buy, load it with AUD and convert it to USD? (not looking for shady reddit gift card sharing or signing up for the citibank plus bank account)

I think you just about ruled out everything. You either buy amazon gift cards at a discount, pay with a no conversion fee credit or debit card, or somehow pay with a debit card from a USD bank account.

I don't know of any currency converters which beat the regularly touted citi/28 degrees/bankwest

Edit - maybe a paypal debit card? Not sure if you can get one in USD, think it says a 1% comversion fee off the mastercard rate you would get with the no fee banks

    • I can't seem to find any gift cards at a discount. All gift cards on ebay are marked up by at least 30%. It's such a shame Amazon doesn't accept paypal.

  • 28 degrees/citi/bankwest as stated above already would be your best bet.
