Which MicroSD Card Is Best for a Powerful Smartphone?

Hi,

I'm trying to work out which MircoSD Card is best for my smartphone?

I have recently purchased a Samsung EVO but i'm now wondering if I should return this and purchase an EVO+

The device i'll be using it in is an HTC M8 but i'm thinking about upgrading my phone soon.

EVO = 48MB/s reading , writing ???

EVO+ = 80MB/s reading and up to 20MB/s writing

I run a lot of my apps from the MircoSD card and I also store a few thousand photos and music on it.

If I purchase the EVO+, will I notice any difference in speed? Will apps launch faster, will my photos show up faster?

Thanks in advance

  • Powerful Smartphone? what make and model?
    and what are you trying to achieve ? Record 4K video?

    Most of the time, apps are running from phone memory not from the sd card. Fast cards are only good for 4K recording devices for my understanding.

    • As I said in the original post, i'm currently using a HTC M8 and would like to upgrade soon. An upgrade from an M8 would either be a M9 or a HTC10 both of which record 4k video.

      "Most of the time, apps are running from phone memory not from the sd card" Who told you this? I have a whole heap of apps running off my current SDcard

  • the evo will have pretty much the same write speed as the +. I don't think you will notice any difference in the performance of the phone.

    you can get much faster cards but they will cost about 1/4-1/2 of the price of your phone, and then there's the issue of your device being capable of reading & writing at those speeds. I think they're called uhs-ii & uhs-iii

  • Amything with minimum 20mb/s wrie is fast enough. Phones camt really saturate that. No need to spend overboard when its gojng in a phkne.

    • Your write speeds are a bit hit and miss.

  • All the micro SD cards posted on OzB are top quality so I wouldn't worry
