Holiday Ideas for December 2016 to January 2017

Hi all,

Just looking for suggestions for a cheap(ish) holiday around 20th December 2016 until around 4th January 2017. (Dates can be a little flexible)
My partner is a teacher so she gets school holidays off obviously, and I get 2 weeks off during the dates I mentioned above.

Looking for a relatively cheapish holiday during my off time, as we are looking at doing Europe in 2017 so don't want a hugely expensive holiday.

We have looked into the obvious Bali / Thailand holidays, but just interested to see what other interesting suggestions that we haven't thought of.

Suggestions to pretty much anywhere are appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

    • Yeah I keep an eye out for the travel deals on a daily basis…. Most of them exclude the Christmas/NYE period though :(
Hence, making a post for any other suggestions we might not have thought about.

  • See your own country…? :)

If you look at flights to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore these are very cheap. From there you can find amazing places to explore in Asia.

Im not sure what you are after in a holiday, but Myanmar is amazing and has very few tourists. It is really cheap and you can get an amazing cultural experience. Google 'Bagan temples' you will not be disappointed.

Also Malaysia itself is a great place to explore with Kuala Lumpur offering an amazing variety of great food, Penang being the home of the curry, and also Borneo. Borneo is well worth a trip by itself, as you hike through the jungle to see Orangutangs. You can also see he small wealthy country of Brunei.

Countries like Cambodia (look at Koh Rong off the coast and then skip a few more islands on), Vietnam (Halong bay), are also incredible to visit.

If you like Bali, Id suggest perhaps even exploring more of the country. And with Thailand, have you been to Chiang Mai/Pai?
Fiji may still be cheap atm due to the cyclone, and will be desperate for some tourism dollars.

Within Australia, Id suggest a ton of places that most people never go. Checkout the Overland Trail in Tasmania, and time a trip their with the Food and Wine Festival in Hobart. Also wait for the end of the Sydney/Hobart yacht race.

You could also head to Uluru, or Kakadu national park by doing a bit of a road trip. It actually amazes me how little of our country some people have seen.
