DEALTIME

Kogan ThermoBlend Pro, $167.40 + shipping using the code DEALTIME. Usually listed at around $249.

Very similar to the previous generation Bellini Intelli except minor styling differences.

Seems to be the cheapest thermocooker in the market at the moment, great for those who love wet dinner porridge or hot wet rice…

  • Any similarities with ThermoMix? (e.g. recipes can be made the same way etc)?

It is essentially the same unit, even down to the bowls and blade attachments.

      • Definitely… I'd call around and see if any stock, pickup would be cheaper as well as easier warranty. :)

        • Good luck on doing that, I think Target has run out of that quite a while back. I have been looking for one but haven't found any even in some of the Target Country stores…

        • @systema:
Haha yeah same problem I had getting the supercook, I got the last one in all of SA late last year - had to go to Mt Gambier! Fortunately was already in Robe at that point…

I think the major difference between this and the Thermomix is the lack of built in scales. We have one of these and it's been absolutely brilliant. We are very happy with it. My Mrs is not known for taking care of things, and I admit I might have got a bit of smoke out of ours when making some bread dough which was a bit too stiff, but the thing is still going great. For this price, a great way to dip your toe in the TM pool without forking out thousands.

I think the major difference between this and the Thermomix is the lack of built in scales.

It is a clone of the previous model Thermomix. Scales are a feature of the new model.

    • It can’t steam and cook at the same time.

Thermomix's speed is continuously adjustable from 100 to 10,700 rpm with gentle stir 40 rpm capability. It has true variable speed drive.

      • Spoken like a True Believer!

The main difference in Australia is the marketing - massive markup, shops won't touch it, pyram^W multi-level marketing.
Like Kirby, Enjo, Avon, and Herbalife.

        • No, the Thermoblend will only spin up to ~5000rpm and I highly doubt it's built in France.

      • You can cook and steam at the same time with this unit, the one that you are referring to is an older model.

Not sure about the speed of the motor, but it seems plenty fast for me. It comes with a stirring blade for stirring.

Identical to the old model Bellini intellicook that was once available from Target which we have.if I recall it was about $240 on run out. The thermomix at more than 10 times the price does a much better job, but not ten times better.

Mrs Entropy was very keen on a thermomix. Rather than go for a $2000 job I suggested getting a povertymix like the bellini to see if she would use such a product. If she used it a lot she could get the thermomix.

So we have this monster taking up a big part of the kitchen bench. It requires careful cleaning of the parts. Of which there are many, and not easy to clean, and must be done by hand with a wire brush as food can get stuck in the joints, and much of it isn't dishwasher friendly anyway.

After a couple of years of use, Mrs entropy likes it, but she doesn't do the washing up. She would probably use it once a week compared with nearly every day when we first got it. I got quite cranky on Anzac Day to discover Mrs Entropy and littlest miss entropy planning to make Anzac biscuit mix in there. Why not just a bowl? Unbelievable. My mistake of course was verbalising this belief: thermomix people, even povertymix people, don't do criticism well, and I ended up making the biscuits with littlest miss entropy. At least it was in an easy to clean bowl.

My opinion, spend a $167.40 on a decent knife and chopping board, and just use a saucepan on the stove. Just as quick, and much, much easier to clean and put away out of sight.

      Good review.
How many people here actually use any sort of blender frequently when cooking?
Mine sits at the back of the cupboard, as like Mr. entropysbane, a good knife is usually easier.

And beware, these machines will not brown your food. So if you like to sauté your onions, you need to chop and fry them separately first, before adding to the mixer.

I suppose it all depends on what you like to cook.

spend a $167.40 on a decent knife and chopping board,

This is OzB - get some $20 ceramic knives from China :-)

I pretty much agree with this post, but I will say that we put everything in the dishwasher and haven't really had any problems.

  • I have the Bellini version of this. The first time I made soup.

It almost exploded! Why? Because I was a dumbarse and over filled it and I left the measuring cup on. So the pressure built up. If I had read the instruction, it SPECIFICALLY says to take the cup off when doing cooking certain stuff

    TL:DR
    Read the F****** manual

When I bought it, I was under the impression that I will do less cooking on the stove. However that is not the case.
I still use it for various things. I still find it useful. However, for me, it is no magical tool.

  • I assume it is not like a crock pot / slow cooker where you just put everything in (a little left over wine - as if) come home from work or get up in morning , no noise, one bowl, apart from browning. Works for me and not a permanent resident of the cupboard of popular promotions.
