Citi Bank Credit Card Non AU Transactions

With Citi bank charging for overseas transactions on credit cards what is the best way to see if a transaction fee will be charged .
I have been booking accomadation with Agoda in the past and the transaction has an AU at the end but since the introduction of the fee it is now SG and charged the fee.

Also has any one booked via booking.com with a Citi bank credit card if so was it from AU

Thanks

I don't think you can tell. Google Play Store comes up in Australian dollars and they still charge an overseas transaction fee.

I booked AirBnb (priced in $AUD) and got severely screwed on currency conversions and overseas transaction fees. (there was nothing that I noticed that said that I would be charged in another currency) Add to that the AirBnb included fees on me and on the host, and there is quite a difference between what I paid, and what the host received.

  • I just spoke to Citi bank about this and the guy said he has had a lot of inquiries about this and the only way he can recommend is Google the company and if the head office is overseas you might be charged !!! So don't risk it and use another card . Sorry but this is just plain crazy as a lot of companies head offices are overseas

Yes, a lot of banks are doing this now. The safe option is to use Bankwest Zero Platinum/28 Degrees/Citibank Plus Visa Debit.

      • I agree I have all the above cards ( thanks to ozbargain) but love the points from the Citi bank card will have to really manage which card I use now
