Android Phone Help! Google search box - Android Marshmellow

Gday All,

Ive recently bought one of the (vodafone deal, unlocked) Motorola Moto X Styles….

Its coming along nicely with the configuration - im just trying to remove the "Google search and mic" bar (white box) from the top of the first screen.

Has anyone done this without Rooting / Rom flashing ?

Cheers,
Mark.

That's part of Google Now launcher.

To disable it, disable Google Now. But that's disabing a very useful feature….for some people anyway.

Go to Settings > Apps > swipe to the “ALL” tab > select “Google Search” > press “Disable”.

    restart the phone.

If you wish to retain Google Now functionality, but you don't want to see the bar any longer, just load a different launcher.
for e.g Nova Launcher and configure your own homescreen.

  • turn off google now? Suggest Nova launcher.

  • Isn't it just the widget?

Put your finger on it and hold for a second or 2, then move it to the trash can, and it's gone :)

    • motorola is close to stock, doesn't work on nexus devices either as it's not a widget.

  • dunno if it'll work for you, or if this is a cyanogenmod thing only, but hold down the screen to get the wallpapers/widget settings, and the option to remove the search bar is in the settings menu of that screen.

  • Thankyou all for your prompt replies.

@backspace - I can confirm its simply not a widget on Motorola Moto X Style with Marshmallow.

Its was on my old samsung and my LG G3.

Bit annoying really…… Ill do some searching for an alternative Launcher.

  • ok…. So on this phone it appears under…

Go to Settings > Apps > Then the menu button that looks like ":" > Show System > Google Now Launcher.

But Disable is Greyed out. Even after Force Stop and Restart.

    • That sounds like you are trying to disable the launcher (I don't have Motorola device, so don't quote me on it). It'd make sense because if you only have one launcher, they wouldn't let you disable it.

Try to look for "Google Search" or just grab third party launcher.

  • Au model or Chinese. May need to install the factory fitting and start again if is from Overseas. Bloatware and spyware beware. Luck on this one.

  • @oversimplified

The apps i can see are.

    Google Account Manager
    Google Backup Transport
    Google COntacts Sync
    Google Hindi Input
    Google Japanese Input
    Google Keyboard
    Google Korean Input
    Google Launcher Config
    Google One Time Init
    Google Partner Set up
    Google Play Movies & TV
    Google Play Music
    Google Play Services
    Google Play Store
    Google Services Framework
    Google Text-To-Speech Engine
    Google Zhuyin Input

ill download Nova Launcher (free version) and double check Google Now Launcher….

    • :P Just grab the nova launcher. It'd be easier than other methods (the more I look into it, the more I get the feeling that that is so).

      • Downloading it now……

        Cheers mate.

  • @Kevan2
Its Australian Stock (Vodafone deal from 2 weeks ago, Unlocked - no branding) - 24months warranty and all.

  • Thankyou all for your help - best fix for this seems to be bypass it and move on.
    Nova Launcher.- Google Play

Now its a widget- with normal functionality. Remove / Move / Resize ect….

Nova launcher is the best thing you could ever do to your mobile.

Support the dev as it is number one in my book. And that goes to show that I rarely purchase an app at full price too
