Amaysim data disappearing fast vs Optus

Hello,

I ported out from Optus today after having enough of their horrendous service. I ported to Amaysim and I know that they use Optus 4G+. I only had the sim card active for a matter of an hour and I went on 3 websites and it used 150MB of data. I have to admit that the internet speed does seem faster than when I was with Optus themselves. So far, over 5 hours (having wifi at home also) I have used 250MB, this is compared to me using my phone for the past 7 days with Optus and only having used 850MB. Is there something that I have done wrong because it seem a bit excessive and I've never had this problem before? I am just fearful that my 7GB will be gone in not time and that it is being used unnecessarily although nothing has changed since I was using Optus.

I have a LG G4.

I look forward to hearing from you and thanks in advance.

Maybe your phone decided to download a big update? There should be an audit screen under settings to show you which app consumed the data. You can also set the phone to update only via WiFi.

Under 'Mobile Data' in settings there's a bunch of line/bar graphs showing you how much data each app used.

May be from the DT Ignite process/app that can install bloatware. As greenpossum said it should appear which app used the data under your data usage section in settings.

Check Settings/Data Usage and it shows which apps use the data and how much.

Is it possible that Amaysim measures per MB instead of per kB? (Old Optus plans used MB but newer ones use kB.)

    • It can make a big difference

  • On my wife's Samsung note 3, There is a "smart switch" option which was ticked for some reason. What it does is it switches to 4G automatically if your wifi is not working. My wifi can be a bit patchy in different areas of my house, so sometimes she would be watching a video, and it would be downloading over 4G. Check if your LG phone has this setting.

    • My Redmi Note 3 Pro decided to use WiFi AND 4G to download an update to a game quicker than solely on WiFi. Lesson learned, when updating apps, disable mobile data.

  • Thank you guys. I switched some tabs and put Youtube on to HD only when on Wifi and it seems to be better. Thank you so much.

  • Amaysim have turned to sh*t over the last 6 months. Both my wife and myself have been with them for years! Their customer service is very bad (can't ring them as you can't through, they ignore emails and their silly "chat" has long delays with the representatives giving you incorrect info).

You'll probably find the same as there are reports all over the place of it happening to a lot of others as well. I will be leaving them for good in the next few weeks and my wife as well. They used to be great so it is a disappointing they have changed so much.

    • "I will be leaving them for good in the next few weeks and my wife as well."

      LOL, that sentence reads well…

  • OMG, so I've been checking my Amaysim statement and found that I've incurred a charge today of $75 Apparently I've used 1046.84MB of data. Talk about daylight robbery.

Add to the fact that there are times when the phone has been turned off or run out of charge and sits idly on the fridge yet Amaysim are still charging me for 'usage' that I haven't even used. Contacted Live Chat to be told that "your phone is always recieving data". Seriously? It's dead, not charged, not turned on. Am I missing something here?
