Comfortable & Flexible Construction Work Pants?

Hello OzBargain

I work in the construction industry and have a problem. Every pair of pants I seem to buy rips in the crocth area. I get pretty sick and tired of having to get new pants all time. So I was wondering if OzBargain can help me out.
What I would like in work pants:
Navy blue long pants
Lots of pockets
Flexible

Does anyone know of good construction pants?

  • Rips in the crotch area? Surely you are not exaggerating the size of your fully extended shortsword?

    I jest,

That my friend is a 'crotch blowout' and it happens a lot to thicker, stiffer trousers such as jeans. If it is happening to every pair of pants you own, it's possibly due the way you walk that causes the pants to wear down at the crotch area — or you are buying pants of the wrong size (the crotch area is too low, or the pants too tight)

Not necessarily due to the way he walks. When carrying out construction work it's not unusual to have to climb up and down things and stretch out on long and awkward angles which can cause pants to tear. I've had heaps of pants tear and rip due to such activities.

    • Subwagon has it spot of it always happens when bending over or using ladders or in awkward tasks. Never just happens from walking.

      • Maybe you need to reinforce it. Could you bring it to a tailor and have them add extra fabric to the crotch area

        • I have kept my old ones to try to see if this works will do when I have 5 pairs.

  • wear your pants higher, with a belt. If you're fat, lose some weight so your thighs don't rub. Use a different belt too

My king gees [the standard ("drill pants")[http://www.kinggee.com.au/mens/pants/originals/reflective-drill-pants-51.html#80=4561&142=4522] are soft, especially when they got nuked in the corporate washing machine and dryer. They were so soft they never crinkled again.

I was at Rays outdoors many years ago and they were selling them for $10 each! (EOL) I bought a whole stack. This was an instore discounted deal. Was the starched ones (i think UV?) and feel a bit stiffer. I'm sure if they were nuked in the company washer, they would be just the same

    • I do wear them quiet high with a belt, would not mind getting some for $10 currently using hard Yakka and another brand. The work pants my company supply nearly last a week.

      • work company needs a new contract. Tell them they're shit and just keep destorying them until they get the message.

        • I wish I could, kinda in a very good position with them and due to the type of work want to keep it that way or I might get a pay cut.

@ty2050: I would tell you to grow a pair, but it appears that might be the problem
