Optus Rewards Not Selling Hoyts Vouchers Anymore

I personally like to stock up on the $11 vouchers and use them as I need.
But from June 27 Optus is switching to the same way Telstra does village movie tickets.

From June 27th you'll be able to:
Purchase discounted movie tickets to HOYTS cinemas directly through HOYTS 'Book a Session' on optusperks.com.au

Purchase discounted movie vouchers to independent cinemas like Reading and Dendy as you do currently

Bit annoying to be honest.

    Is there a difference?
Instead of buying a voucher and getting a code to type in to the Hoyts site, it just takes you directly to the Hoyts site and lets you purchase the discounted price directly.

^^This, saves having to worried about expired vouchers

Only issue is that during busy times the Hoyts website shits itself. If this happens, it invalidates your Optus Perks voucher and doesn't issue tickets. Hoyts then refuse to do anything about it. At least with a voucher you can print it and present it at a cinema.

    • don't forget to purchase using discounted hoyts gift cards :)

    • I prefer vouchers as I go movies often but no voucher means I can no longer also use them for pre sales.

The Optus perks booking system only let's you book for the current screening week (think it resets every Thursday)

      • WA Hoyts updates their screenings every Wednesday
Source: My friends used to rely on me to buy $10 tickets

  • this is similar to telstra thanks and village.

  • Also to note, they introduced a $3 fee for cinemas with reclining seats! (eastland and frankston)

    Not happy.

    • I booked seats at Eastland yesterday.
      No fee for one screening.
$3.50 fee for extreme screen screening.

      • Will be introduced from 27 jun mate

        • Fair enough.

          Hi XXXX
Thank you for your email regarding our recliner seat cinemas.

          Blah Blah Blah

Hoyts has no plans to implement a surcharge for attending a screening at a recliner seat cinema, we do however impose a surcharge when attending a session on one of our extreme screens.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us with your question.

  • simple question - how to access optusperks ?

as simple as activating a $2 optus sim, or ….. ?

    • +1

      Yep

      • if i wanted movie tix for this weekend i could arrange that thru perks ?

        • Yep, or you could ask a friend who is on Optus to purchase you some vouchers through their Optus Perks account.

  • im so annoyed at the $3 surcharge for the recliner seats they've brought in!! My cinema only has reckoning seats so my tickets are now $14 everytime

    • I'd happily pay $14 every time for a recliner seat. I am currently forced to pay $14.50 for a non recliner seat because my local Hoyts always puts the good movies only on Xtreme Screen.

    • Yeh im really annoyed too. there is no option at Eastgardens. Going to have to go to entertainment quarter from now on.

      • It's crazy and unfair for Eastgardens I reckon. Moorepark seems crazy to have to drive there while the tram line road works r on!! I wanna complain to optus

        • I'll be complaining to them tomorrow! Only realised that price increase tonight when i went to try and book a ticket. I did however really enjoy the reclining seats whilst they lasted, found myself going to a lot more movies cause of it. Now i just have to be more selective with my movie choice!

        • @chillybags: couldn't agree more! We were going every Friday night. I didn't mind the extra for xtreme screen but now the recliner fee as well wen they r all recliners is just unfair

        • @mel82: yep it's a real shame. Long time ritz goer and actually converted to Hoyts because of it. Got heaps of friends to convert with me too!
