If you're looking for a good basketball - the Molten GG7X is right up there. It has great grip and feel and the distinctive patterning makes it highly visible. It's a premium ball and costs a bit more - but it's worth it.

The GG7X is an indoor/outdoor composite basketball - but it probably won't last a long time if used exclusively outdoors (especially if it gets wet).

Amazon has it for $57.44 USD + $12.82 USD shipping. Camel3 shows this as being the cheapest ever.

This converts to about $100 AUD shipped - better than any retailer in Australia (if you can find it).

Other ways to save more:

  • Use Topcashback. They currently have 6% cashback in the Amazon sports & fitness category. 6% is about $3.50 USD.
  • The Amazon $5 off $10 mobile app voucher deal is still ongoing.
  • Get it shipped to an Amazon pickup location (only saves $1 USD though).
  • Order 2 balls - saves about $5 AUD per ball.

Note: If you don't want to spend quite so much there is the GM7X for $31.97 USD - but it's really not as good. Amazon also seems to charge $20 USD instead of $12 USD shipping on this ball for some reason.

    +1 supporting information.

  • 110.00 from Rebel and i know they have price matched before for me.
Besides my son would just lose it.

    • Rebel doesn't sell the gg7x?

  • +2

    Cheaper on epay

have not purchased from this mob, but I regularly buy online (3 of my kids play 'reps' basketball)

+1 on this. 100aud is not the cheapest on a gg7x. keen to be part of a groupbuy though if lesser than 75aud.

Lots of fakes out there - ebay/aliexpress is a risk for basketballs - even if they say "100% genuine" in the listing. I suspect some may even be genuine that failed QA testing.

You only really find out when it starts to fall apart 4 months later. Amazon will refund you if so.

If you've purchased from an online store like this and can confirm the stock is good that is different tho.

  • How does this one compare with the GF7X?

    • GF7X is the same as the GM7X pretty much.

      • So which one is best for indoor use only? I don't plan on playing outdoors any time soon.

        • A leather ball.

GL7 is the official FIBA ball they used last Olympics. Basketball Vic and NSW use Moltens also. There is a newer GL7X version.

There is always the Spalding official NBA ball.

The NCAA and NBL use the Wilson solution for their game ball - a composite ball.

These might be overkill - but you will look the goods at least.

        • @gringo: Sweet, thanks, now just have to see if they're in my price range, my old And 1 ball losing all sorts of grip.

Why spend so much money on an indoor outdoor ball? The if you play with it outdoor, its going to get torn up regardless.

Would rather buy a GF7 for ~$80 for indoor and cheap ~30 ball from rebel for outdoor.

    • Totally agree.

    • A $30 ball feels terrible - why practice with a rock? Get a leather ball for indoors and this for outdoors. A rubber one for when it is wet maybe.

Or if you would rather have only one ball - this will cover all bases.

Outdoor doesn't tear it up that much (esp if the surface is smooth) maybe accept that you will get 1 year or so out of it if you play every day. This is only a small investment compared to the value you get out of it.

      • Even a $10 ball will last a while. Its not so much about the ball as much as it is the skill of the player. I should know - I used to play 4 hours of basketball every day after school without fail lol.

        • Well if you just go the park for pickup games.. usually the best ball gets used anyway. ozbargainprotip.

A good ball helps you shoot better and develop good technique IMO. The pattern on the moltens is good cause you can see it spinning as you throw it.

No point spending hundreds on shoes and nothing on a ball though.

    • Personal preference - spaldings are heavy and feel bad IMO. Anything round and bouncy will do when starting off tho.
