Repair Rusting Dishwasher Rack?

Hi all,

We have an Asko Dishwasher. I would estimate it would be about 10 years old, maybe older. It works great, but I've noticed in a few places on the wire dish draws that the outer plastic covering has perished, exposing the metal, and the metal is rusting.

Has anyone had experience fixing this sort of issue? I don't really care how it looks, as long as the end result is that the drawer is repaired and the repair can survive dishwasher cycles.

The only product I've come across so far specifically for this situation is this:

I had the same issue with my normal dishrack, as in the one that sits on top of my kitchen bench, cos the dishwasher in my house is me…

I cleaned off the rust with some white vinegar using tin foil. Then paint using enamel paint.

Sounds good, however my only concern would be how well the enamel paint will hold up being inside a dishwasher.

You have your answer Plastidip should work. Its been around for years and I have used it for tools (insulation etc), but not a dishwasher.

The website says it can do that and given the way it works on tools it makes sense.

A 10 year old dishwasher is getting long in the tooth, so miniminal investment in repairs is wise.

Thanks, was pretty sure Plastidip was is going to be the best option, but thought it was worth asking to see if anyone had any other ideas.

Agreed, not wanting to spend too much on the dishwasher

  • So, how's this for strange.

I thought I'd go ahead and purchase it direct from the manufacturer (since its made in Australia). Went to order from this page:

The item itself is $26, and with shipping (no shipping options are given) the grand total is $64.

But, the exact same thing, from an American ebay seller, is about $30
