[PC] Weekly Time-Wasters (Steam/GMG/Humble/GOG) - Out There Somewhere $0.49 USD + more

760

Hey Ozbargainers,

This is going to be a weekly post for all those cool, cheap little games that go on sale each week on the various gaming sites. I'm just concentrating on Steam, Green Man Gaming, the Humble Store and GOG for the moment.

I'm sure the bigger game deals will get posted by the rest of the awesome community here :)

The criteria for games will be:

  • No more than $1 or at least 80% off
  • At least 80% positive on Steam (with a decent number of reviews)
  • Not overly complicated and can be played pretty casually (i.e. when you've got a few minutes to kill)
  • And of course my own preferences, so yes, I'm probably going to miss games that other people like, but feel free to comment :)

The best deal of the week (in my humble opinion) will be posted in the title with the link included.

Here's this week's list:

Game / Platform (in the link) Genre Price (USD) Rating Gameplay
Out There Somewhere Puzzle Platformer $0.49 (75% off) 93% By Jesse Cox and Josh Mattingly
Bit Blaster XL Asteroids style $0.49 (51% off) 99% By Andrea Ritsu
Trine 2: Complete Story Puzzle Platformer $2.99 (85% off) 96% By Throneful

Thanks to @azukay for the suggestion of setting Ukraine as the region for cheaper prices if you're buying from GOG and have a VPN or proxy.

Nothing much on GMG or the Humble Store this week.

Enjoy!

Great idea! I look forward to seeing what sort of gems pop up through this.

Will you be play testing at all before you decide on your weekly games? Or will it be purely based on prices/reviews?

    Nice idea.

Fantastic Idea. Keep it up. will be following with great interest!

For cheapies, you might also want to mention if they have Steam trading cards. You should make at least 15 cents off their sale, which is at least 15% cashback for little work if you are using IdleMaster.

    Thanks all :)

nbpengi - yeah, I will try and play test them. I've got all three of the games above and I can vouch for them, all really good fun.

    mskeggs & Kossac - thanks :)

Thaal Sinestro - yeah, I did think about including trading cards but I kinda wanted to focus on games that people might actually play :) Having said that, I guess people play and make a few cents back, so I might do it next time.

Agree. Focus on games, not trading cards.

nice idea! would be good to add percentage discount, as well as metacritic score.

Out There Somewhere is on my wishlist, but I might wait for a deeper discount…according to isthereanydeal, it's gone to 19c (96% off at the time) before.

edit: actually, looking at the price history, looks like it was discounted to 0.19c a few times while it was priced at $4.99. ever since the price has dropped to $1.99, it only gets discounted to 49c! (it was cheaper on sale when it was more expensive!) so may just have to just pick it up at 49c then…wish I had got it earlier at 19c!

Yep, I might add the percentage discount in but I actually tend to avoid metacritic these days. I find there seems to be a lot of wingers who give negative reviews and the professional critics can be really harsh on some of the smaller indie games sometimes.

Go on, it's 49c ;) I know a true ozbargainer will never pay more than they have to though :)

      Edit, sorry 0.68c AUD :)

Just on that, do people care about prices in AUD for games that are this cheap?

  • Thought the percentage was the discount value, perhaps you could swap the "rating" and "gameplay" columns around. Good job

    • I did at first too, then I read it.

    • No worries guys, thanks for the suggestion. I've added the percentage discount next to the prices.

Thanks OP - great idea and i look forward to your future entries.

    No Payne, no game!

    • No Payne, no game!

      Haha, love it! :)

Don't forget for GOG purchases, if you have VPN or proxies, change it to UKRAINE. E.g. Trine 2 is $1.05 USD. Since the purchases are DRM free you can just download it. Another example is Witcher 3: Wildhunt + Expansion is $74.99 USD. Change it to Ukraine it's suddenly $39.99 USD.

OP should probably make a note in the first post.

    • Done, thanks azukay!

  • Great idea - I can vouch for Out There Somewhere!

  • Good idea. I recently started playing Out There Somewhere and really enjoy it.

  • Its cheaper i think if you use russia via vpn for gog
