OS Stuck on Blue Screen, What to Do?- Windows 10

Hi guys, all on a sudden my computer screen is stuck on this blue screen with a white dot constantly circling http://imgur.com/mo1lxYA. It goes pass the screen where you can access the bios though. I tried to restart but it would go pass that screen. Could someone please advise me what to do. Thanks in advance.

  • did you install any software/hardware new recently? I would try booting it in safe mode and uninstalling any newly installed software. Try running a scan disk as well.

  • No, I havent installed anything recently. How do I run a scan disk? I cant go pass this blue screen.

  • Try pressing F8 when you turn it on quickly to see if that works?

  • +1

I have had this problem before. It's a little more serious than the blue screen and white spinner with the endless "Please wait" message. Usually that happens after one of those background system updates that Windows seems to favour nowadays.

However, perhaps salvation is still possible! From memory I recovered from this more serious type of blue screen of deathness having lost nothing more than a few hours of my time.

    Try this:

    1. Get or create a Windows 10 installation USB.
    2. Boot computer with USB inserted; you may need to adjust priority of disks in the BIOS to ensure the USB is accessed before the hard disk.

Now, I don't remember exactly what recovery tools the Windows 10 installation USB comes with, but there may be an option allowing you to reboot in safe mode. Wherever possible, proceed down this route first. Just remember that if you do this, you need to remove the USB for the reboot, in order to continue with your original OS.

Wherever possible, accept offers for scans.

If nothing of the sort is available to you:

    1. Proceed as you would with a fresh Windows 10 installation.

    HOWEVER!

    1. Windows will eventually complain about it having detected an existing installation.
    2. Carefully follow instructions regarding offers to attempt to scan and or repair the existing installation.

For me, the repairs made here solved it for me.

Worse case scenario, it's too far gone and you will need to do a fresh install. However, you can always run a portable Linux Live USB instance and salvage important files, etc, before reinstalling.

Damn Windows. Only in the last two years have I become acquainted with Linux, and were it not for a few key applications, I'd ditch Windows completely.

Anyhow, I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be able to offer more detailed instruction on cause and remedy. All the best.

  • Had the same issue at work with one of our laptops.
It was an Older laptop with a SSD that had been added at a later date.

I came across an article that BOTH windows 8.1 and windows 10 have a FAST boot mode that can cause the issue.
    check out the video..

    it worked for us anyway

But we were able to log in every couple of tries so we could change it once we logged in

Trying SAFE mode as suggested might get you in and then make the changes
