Should I Buy a GTX 970 for $420 with eBay Sale or Wait for GTX 1070

Hi

So my vid card died, luckily there's a eBay 20% off sale , so I can get a gtx 970 for $420 down from $525.

or should I wait for a gtx1070

However there wont be a eBay 20% sale when the gtx1070 releases.

I don't want to spend any money at all, so I'm over budget anyway you look at it, but could probably spend $500.

What do I do?

(I run 3 x 19inch 1440x900 for games)

You've got zero chance of getting a 1070 for $500 or less so if budget is a concern I'd go for the 20% off 970.

Unless you are an Nvidia only person (fanboy or a linux gamer), the Radeon 480X looks compelling. GTX 980 performance, and the price segment is $199USD, which is basically the current GTX960 or Radeon 380 market (about $280-$310).

Thats a tremendous bang for buck, and its more powerful than the GTX970.. for a lot less too (not to mention cheaper than the GTX1070, which is only marginally faster).

  • Get yourself a used 970 instead, plenty going up for sale

  • Given your monitor resolution a GTX970 is over kill for gaming. It can handle 1080p 60fps ultra in most games, very few it won't.
Either plan on your future options of upgrading monitors to guide your choice in GPU upgrade

  • According to some product reviews, GTX 1070 faster than Titan, and gtx980 ti
