  • is this a good brand?

  • These have been around for a long time (a couple of years that I know of). They seem to have recently been rebranded from Cabac to Huntkey. Or at least they're the same under the plastic as the Cabac ones (all the specs are the same). If you search for 'surge boards' on Whirlpool these boards are recommended over the usually higher priced and lower spec'ed ones available. One point of difference is that they don't have the attached equipment warranty that a lot have (and wriggle out of apparently). Although I have seen this board sold with one for about $80 in Officeworks.

  • You can get white ones too.

  • anyone know if this available for pickup?
Couldnt see anything to suggest otherwise

    EDIT: Looks like it is

This product is also available for pickup from our showroom located at 25-55 Rothschild Avenue, Rosebery NSW 2018 during opening hours. See the pickups information for more details.

    • Where'd you find that?

Good deal btw I think I might get one

edit: Found it in the FAQ "pick-up is available on most of our products".

      Thanks, got 2 =)

  • Thanks mate, I just bought a new computer and was getting worried about using it without a surge protector. I just bought 2.

  • just bought a few of these for my tv/computer and guitar equiptment.

the family electrician recomended that they are a pretty cheap way of protecting your gear from MOST bad power situations. and that MOST of the cheaper units will reallistically do just as good a job as the over the top priced ones. (think monster cable vs cheapo hdmi cable)

  • These ones have better specs than almost any available (less than multiple $100's). I think only the top line Belkin ones have better (and they're $200-300). Not sure about Monster.

I just hope they've been tested to make sure they are actually up to the specs.

Even as an 8 point power board they're worth it.

    • just curious, what are the specs to look out for when it comes to these items?

in what way is this one spec'd better than another one?

    • +1

Even as an 8 point power board they’re worth it.

      Not for $27 delivered.

BELKIN 6-Way Compact Surge Protector better for the same price just that no room for large power adapter that is the only suck. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/25138

      • -1

Looks to be $89 to me and not as good protection.

        • +1

          $29 delivered on 10/05/10.

          not as good protection

This compact Surge Protector safeguards your electronics against damaging power surges from both mains and phone⁄ADSL connections. Powerful 2190 Joule total surge absorption rating, with Belkin's $Unlimited Connected Equipment Warranty plus a Data Recovery Warranty for peace of mind.

You can't get any better protection than that!

          • @POWERevolution: Better protection with no warranty (except house contents insurance?) vs. lesser protection and a dubious warranty (by reports on Whirlpool).
I dunno, I'd rather go for the better one and save the hassle of claiming and doing without the loss. Mind you if the Belkin warranty is good that could get you some good replacement stuff. More likely a slow repair.

  • There's not much in the way of specs though? How many joules can it absorb? (i.e. lightning strike protection?)… the page doesn't say anything at all. Are they any better than those black "Crest" brand ones (at Coles supermarkets) for $32 which have some pretty good specs to them?

  • Cool, picked 2 up.

    Thanks

  • No $$$ protections?

  • If you are looking for one with individual switches, the Jaycar one is very decent buy:

    http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=MS4066

6 way, overload/surge protection, individual switches, spaced for plug packs, $24.95.

    • Those power boards that are lozenge shaped have very basic surge protection compared to the 'tablet' shaped ones.

This almost sounds like I'm a rep for these boards, but I've just done the looking around and I keep a stock of these ones for clients (I sort out computers). I buy 2-4 of this type when they're being sold with free shipping.

  • Cant decide if I sud buy this or hunt for one myself…. so how likely do lightning strike at your house (what percentage) lol…

  • Sold out. T_T

  • That was quick, got them in the mail today.
