  • I'm no fan of Acer, but this is just a Netbook and for $288 it seems an ok deal. It's nice to see a netbook not using the original Atom processor (N270) for once. :)
To their credit Acer do seem to actually send their refund checks, even when users let the expiry date pass.

  • not bad of a deal for a atom revision.

    • I believe so, new ATOM N450 offer better performance and better battery life, like 4 hours on 3 cell, 8 hours on 6 cell.

  • Wow great deal for a N450 :). Can anyone confirm the paypal cashback works along with the acer cashback??

    • this processor is better than 270 can increase is's bettery life

      • dont mean to sound rude but how does that relate to my question on the cashback ?

        • I assume should be fine, because they are total seperate process, one to Acer, one through Paypal, paid by Paypal one month after.

  • -1

This netbook does not have 802.11n. Please update your original post.

Also, do you have a URL for the free freight offer?

    • just add it to your shopping cart and try pay with Paypal

    • Pretty sure all AO532's have wireless N

      • Confirmed comes with 802.11 b/g/N

  • hmm. No Wireless N and WinXP. Not bad but not great either imo.

    • Opps saw the change now. No N thats disaapointing

  • Will this run Windows 7 okay?

    • Windows 7 should be fine, because some model comes with Windows 7 starter

      • Note: I tried installing Win7 on this, the wireless does not work on it (have updated drivers, everything)

        • bazza, I have this exact netbook, win7 running perfect and wireless running perfect. You need to install the win7 32 bit drivers from the acer website, the drivers for the Atheros Wireless NIC are not included in Win7 install. If you go to http://support.acer.com/drivers_download.aspx and select netbook, aspire one, then AO532h, then drivers and scroll down the bottom to the ATHEROS Wireless LAN driver and install it (the site is appallingly slow for me) it works, I also had to do the same with the chipset driver and the VGA driver and it works a treat, im not sure if the link below will give you the LAN driver as a direct link.

  • I tried to pay via paypal still asking for postage

    • Don't know, I ordered one yesterday, no postage paid…

  • Gigabit or 10/100 ? Shame about no N. Might do a pricematch at officeworks. 5% less

  • Is this machine powerful enough for Skype, please? Not sure if more RAM needed.

    • +2

Yup, Skype specifies 1GHz processor and 256MB RAM minimum recommended.

    • runs skype no issues, was the 1st thing i installed and tried out when i installed win7, the built in camera isnt the best, but still better than no camera at all (depending on the subject i guess…)

I will stop harping on about the netbook though, and i am not in anyway affiliated with acer, jb, paypal etc :)

      • Anyone tried to install Skype with the Windows XP on this machine?

Not working for me and a quick google shows there is a known problem with downloading Skype on Acer Netbooks.

I've given up. Any ideas, please?

  • FYI…just went into JB and the ticket specifies only a 3cell battery. What are your thoughts on that? Still a bargain?

    • If you need a six cell then not a bargain for you. If the three cell is fine them it is still a bargain. Make for a great usenet machine

    • +4

I have one with a 3cell and lasts about 4hrs surfing the net via wireless -if that helps

      • i have managed 4.5hours or so, reading non intensive sites and remote desktop to main pc, i havnt tried power saver mode yet so may be able to get more again. the power pack on this is tiny (slightly larger than a phone charger) and has quite possibly the best plug pack i have ever seen (can change the angle of the charging unit so it will fit any plug) so no hassles with carrying it along with netbook if really really need longer than 4 hours or so

  • Anyone know if supports bluetooth? I can't find any detailed tech specs.

  • i bought one of these last week (public holiday monday when JB still had their 10% off PC).

i placed the order online on the monday, received it via courier the friday afternoon.

the $39 is paid to you as a cashback card, you need to register on the website 1st, the SN they ask for is on the left hand side of the box (box has 2 SN panels on it, the one on the right has the generic item SN, the one you want is on the other side). after registering, you get an email with the instructions on cutting that out, copying your receipt and sending it in with either the claim number or a printout from the registration screen or email (any of the 3 will do). they will then send you out an EFTPOS style cashcard.

as for the laptop, fingerprint magnet but can say that it runs the 3 cell flat in my case in about 4.5 hours. can accept a 2GB SODIMM (one slot), and happily runs win7 (not an issue yet).

plays some games i would never have thought of running as well (and the VGA out means easy to output to monitor and plug in a KB and mouse and play as normal).

for this price, this unit is incredible, and the installed XP with it is more than enough for most peoples use of these devices (fast and foolproof)
check some of the sites too for games that run really well like
    www.netbookgamer.com

    • I cannot get a registration to work. I think I have tried every number and abbreviation of numbers on the box, Netbook and receipt. WTF? how hard is this?

  • Anyone ordered and received one of these recently?

I bought and paid for mine a week ago and its still marked 'awaiting shipment'. I'm in Western Sydney, which is hardly the outback. Maybe we have overrun them with orders.

Oh well, I'll just have to keep waiting.

  • I bought one but it was a struggle to get it freight free.
JB reckoned that offer had expired before the date of the initial posting.
Freight to Perth was very fast as it shipped from a local JB HiFi.

No way would Officeworks Joondalup try and match the price.
They argued it was a different model to theirs (not so) and that the PayPal cash-back was not like a legitimate deal they had to compete with.

These netbooks are great and very useful for a new style of flexible computing. Displays 1920 x1080p out of its vga and I use it as a TV with an Ebay $12 digital tuner. Has a sweet audio chip. Does every thing a big computer does but is slight slow to crop or sharpen a big photo.

Now we need to do the long wait for refunds or free money to spend.
