jruban, I've read that your competitor, Sigg, had to replace their lining due to fears that it was leaching BPA, can you tell us about the lining of these bottles?

    • -2

Meh plastic water bottles are fine if they're PETE.

guys im not a rep. sorry

      • Sorry, I should've noticed that you weren't a rep.

  • Brilliant price, if they're safe!

    • Need confirmation if they're safe…

      • +1

no idea. cant find any issues on google search.

Shit that's cheap, althought I dont need one, but think get one anyway….the ozbargain power…

These bottles look virtually identical to Rosebank brand aluminium bottles sold at K-mart for around $8 each. Three bottles for $13 with pouch is very good value. I would only question the "why pay $59.95" marketing line, as I doubt anyone could no matter how hard they tried.

  • 2 sets for $20 shipped, seems rude not to. Assuming they aren't leaching crap out wtf?

  • Just googled aluminium bottles and people say aluminium leaches into the water but stainless steel doesn't. Any experts out there keen to confirm/dispel this?

    • +2

Well, aluminium bottles have a natural aluminium oxide layer that is resistant to leeching. Scratch it and it reforms on the metal. I would be wary of acidic drinks in these bottles but water should be fine. I use one myself as it's cheaper and lighter than stainless steel.

This document suggests water is fine but not soft drinks or fruit juices:

      http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=ArticleURL&_udi=B6V…

"In analysed samples, aluminium values ranged from 4.2 to 165.3 μg/l in drinking water (n=41), from 49.3 to 1144.6 μg/l in fruit juices (n=47), and from 44.6 to 1053.3 μg/l in soft drinks (n=88). "

10 times more aluminium in soft drinks and fruit juices compared to plain water. Of course, some aluminium is still more than zero.

      • does it make your water taste a bit metallic?
I had a couple of those cheap metal (not sure what type) from Anaconda and water from them tastes metallic… would prefer a plastic bottle

        • No change in taste in either water or a sports drink. I don't use plastic bottles as all the ones I have owned in the past imparted a strong plastic smell and taste to whatever fluid I took with me.

I had a $30 stainless steel bottle for a month and used it during bike rides before someone stole it :-P

      • I dont think soft drinks in a alumimium bottle would be a problem. if it does leech its probably still within the safe limits. The soft drink makers do it all the time using cans and if there was a chance something as acidic as coke isnt safe in it I think coke would be the first to stop doing it. Having $100m lawsuits coming from 100m peoples is the last thing big companies want.

        • alumimium cans for soft drinks have a plastic coating inside to prevent any reaction between the acid and the can.

Just get Camelbak Podium bottles (it's the one with self sealing valve and BPA free):

    http://www.camelbak.com/en/sports-recreation/bottles.aspx

Not sure why some people likes to carry aluminium bottles around.

    • +2

Yeah beer bottles are cheaper and offer a better return for the government!

      • +1

        +1 Grolsch swing-top.

        • +2

Problem there is you have to drink Grolsch…

    • +1 for Camelbak, fantastic bottles and all I use when training these days

  • looks like feeebie from somekinda of expo, but price good, hate delievery charge..

  • You do get aluminium from these if (and only if) there either is no interior coating or if the coating is damaged, although the levels of aluminium are quite small and there have been studies that suggest that there is no link between aluminium intake and Alzheimer's. You can get leaching of BPA and other chemicals from the lining itself, of course, although that reduces with time (there's only so much BPA in the plastic to start with). Apparently only SIGG bottles have BPA-free lining. However, I reckon I get BPA from just about everything else, so I've ordered a set of these! :-)

I also hate the taste from plastic bottles eg Camelbak.

    • Although, there are a few stainless steel bottles on the CamelBak site.

The Alzheimer's connection still concerns me — same with deodorant.

    • You can get leaching of BPA and other chemicals from the lining itself, of course

I find it funny how people buy these bottles because they are scared about BPA leeching from the plastic bottles yet the coating of aluminium bottles can still contain BPA.

It isnt jus water bottles or bottles that have PBA in them wither, yet people one seem to be scared about plastic bottles..

  • damn thats cheap as long as its good quality.

went for a hiking trip during easter and bought 2 x 1000ml spinfex aluminium bottle for $18 from anaconda. and that was on special.

thanks for the deal, got two.

  • Good deal.

  • Bought a set when it first came up yesterday but I'll give it a +

  • I bought two sets.. and they arrived today. Looks and feels pretty cheap compared to other aluminum bottles. Worse yet, I looked inside and can see that it was sprayed with some stuff.. not a proper coating. One of the bottles, I can see that they've sprayed it and it's dried up running and lumpy. I definitely won't be drinking out of these.. :(

    • I looked inside and can see that it was sprayed with some stuff

      Yes that's normal.
If they were left uncoated then the aluminium could react with things you put in the bottle.
