Not sure i fully understand this deal but it appears to be part of the BCF %25 off deal which excludes fridges and weber products. The RRP on the website is $1,899 so the price checks out. Anyway it let me purchase as C&C with paypal for $1424.25 as of 1:30am 12-6-16. I'll see if they try and pull a swifty on my when I try and pick it up tomorrow. Cheapest you can get for local pickup in all states. Next cheapest is in-store only for $1,584 WITH cover from https://www.snowys.com.au/Iceboxes-Fridges/Portable-Fridge-F… then $1,579 WITHOUT cover at https://www.tentworld.com.au/buy-sale/waeco-cfx-95dz2-fridge…

Two interesting points about this fridge that basically sold me over were the USB ports for charging devices and the fact that it's only 472mm High, so it will fit nicely in our camper trailer. Most 12/24v fridges 70L and up tent to be over 500mm.

  • Good luck
    How much is the cover.
    If you need the cover…..

  • Have a look here they maybe overall cheaper.

Most fridges use DanFoss pumps (German originally now made in China)

As you are interested in the cover, some of these come with them.

At least it gives you a cheaper comparison to choose from.

Thats the ozbargain i came for, much better value by the looks of it.

  • is there an app for this? or is the picture with the phone a bit misleading?

    • +1

There is. You can monitor things like temperature and voltage via your phone.

I have the Waeco CFX 50 and it has been nothing but trouble. Google it most people on the forums recommend the brand that starts with E

    • Evakool?

      • +2

        Engel

        • +1

Engel and Waeco are a bit like the Apple and Samsung in the phone arena, good products but not great value, Evakool would be like a nexus, not as main stream (because they pretty much just trade on their reputation instead of big $$$ on marketing.) Whether the modern Engels products are still as robust as what they used to be is debatable but I guess only time will tell. Also, Evakool is an Australian Company.

  • Yeah I know there are better brands out there. I did do a reasonable amount of research and the dimensions were a big factor for me like I said, if it were higher than 500mm it would need to be stored outside the camper trailer which we don't have space to do. I have read mixed reviews on the waecos, some people also have no trouble at all so if we don't get a lemon and treat it well hopefully it will do the job.

    • Engel compared to 30 years is a mere shadow of what it used to be. Their insulation and seals are all chinese made and so is the steel. Waeco is pretty damn good, ive had a couple over the last 10 years and they all still work perfectly, they are used 24/7 as well being in the truck.

Anyways OP hope you looked at this fridge before buying it as its a massive slab of a fridge, cant lift it when its got stuff in it, and its too long for most boots of 4wds.

      • Agree. There have been some problems with Waeco thermostats but according to one refrigeration repairer I read they are no worse than most other brands (ie the vast majority give no problems), including modern Engels. Waeco brought competition into the market and sold thousands of them in the early years because they were 2/3 the price of the dominant (steel/indestructible) Engel. My old 40l Waeco still runs perfectly, fingers crossed.

Waeco isn't the best, most efficient or most robust fridge on the market, nor are they the price of the best, but if you get one for the right price they'll do the job well in my experience.

        • I agree, there were better options out there in terms of quality/reputation. But unfortunately nothing met my specification requirements. I learned of another brand not long ago called "Giant". They seem pretty good and are QLD based (Sunshine Coast). They do look remarkably similar in construction to other brands around but boast a better cooling system. Just check out the videos on their website. They regularly have sales too. Old stock 120L (I know heavy and massive) on sale for $1100 which was cheaper than the 80L equivalent at the time. Got a good deal on the 195w Sharp solar panel too but can't compare the price to ebay panels.

Hi I reckon its pretty good buying. I havent had any trouble with my waeco, owned for about 10 years now. though from what ive seen when you go bigger than the 60L model and you therefore go bigger than the baby danfoss bd35f or whatever, thats when the complexity increases, adn the power draw as well. How big does the thing look in the back of that prado!

Theres alot of chinese options around nowdays my friend has an ebay china one that really efficent, whether it lasts will be another thing entirely though.

Remember the big dual battery system and charging methods that you have to buy to run one of these. I always tell my friends that just do a few 3-4 day camps a year… that $ buys a sh$tload of ice.

Last time we went camping for nearly 2 weeks it was over $100 in ice! I have a 195w solar panel and 100ah deep cycle. Probably need to upgrade the battery but we'll see how it goes :) Also I think in that picture of the prado it is centred and toward the back of the boot so the area it takes up in the photo is a bit deceiving.

    • You'd do fine with 100ah and 195w mate, unless it's all clouds you should be able to run this thing nearly indefinitely. You'd be lucky to draw 10-15A a day unless it was 40c and you can put in over 10A/hr with that solar panel no problems.

  • Thanks for the information Copie. I hope it rings true about the quality. It's less than 1000 long so should fit in my Captiva boot both ways but more importantly will fit in my camper trailer. Website says 32kg which is equal to most steel construction 70-80L fridges. Hopefully it's not too heavy fully loaded for a family of 4!

  • If they don't allow the sale to go through the road I went down for our CT was the Evakool FM70 as it's one of the few bigger ones that isn't too tall, can be had here for $899 and has a full 5yr warranty, it's not as big of a capacity but find that means we can use it for Day trips etc in the car as well, doesn't have quite as many features (USB & wifi) as the CFX but I personally don't think I would use them. (already have USB points in the CT.) Still if this is what best fits your needs it's a good deal I haven't seen it for that price before.

    • Worse case if it doesnt go through OP you can get the 95 via ebay delivered free (with cover) http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/WAECO-CFX-95DZ2-Portable-Fridge-F…

If you dont need it immediately just wait until ebay has 10-15% off camping or sitewide and buy it then.

      • A friend got the cfx50 and I think it's almost been in for repairs as much as it has been out on trips, for the sort of $$$ you have to fork out I would want this to be lasting a long time, for me for the money and the length of the warranty with what seems to be a little bit of hit and miss quality is too short for piece of mind in the long term but YMMV. If he has a need for the extra capacity though with the height limitations you don't really have any other options. If the lesser volume is ok then I think the FM70 is better value.

  • Friend grabbed one before summer, I believe it came with the insulated cover but not 100%

Kept meat and ice creams frozen in 44c weather no problems, kept in the shade of course.

    Seems like a good deal

  • If your panels are of good quality they should keep up in most instances, the new Waeco's seem to be very efficient for their size, a few cloudy days back to back would likely cause issues though.

  • Cover is $199 sold separately. Other places do them as a deal with the cover and it comes out at about $100 on average when packaged with the fridge. BCF don't have an official packaged deal but I'm going to see if they'll throw it in for $100. If that fails I have a $20 off voucher for purchases over $100 for signing up or I think they're $140 on ebay.

Saw that on ebay Copie. That was my intention until this deal came up. Do ebay stores jack their prices when 10%-15% off sitewide comes round?

    • Sometimes they do, just got to be quick, the seller i linked generally doesnt crank up the price given past history.

  • Ok so they honoured the price :) happy camper so far.
