Replacing Head Unit in Toyota Tarago

So I went passed JB today to get a quote on installing this Sony unit as well as a reversing camera and have been quoted ~$400 labour for about 3 hours (max) work.

Looking for advice at letting this done cheaper (Western suburbs VIC) or alternatively if anyone knows how to unstuck the CDs that won't eject from the stacker.

  • How much of that was fascia kit etc? Is the stereo now just a double din or not?

    • That was just for the labour, not inc parts. Yeah the current is a standard double din

      • Wow that's insane, it should be maximum half that!
Maybe the reverse camera adds to the cost

        • Yeah its was something like $220-$240 labour for the stereo and $180 for the camera which was more then the parts.

          Sony stereo - $229
          Toyota conversation kit - $25
          Camera - $80

Why not give it a go doing it yourself?. I recently installed this head unit https://www.jbhifi.com.au/gps-car-audio/sony/sony-dsxa60bt-2… into my Toyota Camry Vienta using this cable http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/Aerpr… to connect it up to the cables that came with the head unit. Suggest checking out some install videos on youtube to get a basic understanding of the process.

    • I have considered this, but as it is not my car I don't really want to take any risks unless I am confident of getting it right. I have been unable to find much information regarding the 2009 Tarago and I am not sure how similar it is to the previous years.

  • Could you risk finding someone on Gumtree to do a backyard install?

    • Probs not.. Though I do have a $50 airtasker voucher due to expire soon.
