Borders Australia to Price Match Amazon.com

The company is willing to backup this promise with the guarantee that if a customer finds a book cheaper on Amazon.com, including purchasing and freight costs, then Borders Australia will refund the difference plus 10 per cent.

Border site

Looks like you have to buy the book from Borders, then total the amount of the same book on Amazon including shipping. Convert that US dollar amount into AUD using Westpac's site, then add a 3% international transaction fee. You will then get the difference + an extra 10% on top of that.

That's a lot of math.

It's a good move that they are trying to become more competitive (generally they are very very expensive, compared to say, Book Depository), albeit a very complex one.

Commend them for trying however Amazons delivery fee/s for books aren't that cheap. It's Book Depository that is the Borders killer.

  • completely agree with the book depository comments. They really need an online calc so you can automatically price match. i.e. "insert price of book here from amazon", then it just works it all out

    • You could just use Booko.com.au which I think does the calculation of delivery cost and currency. They could just have that in Borders to do price matching :)

Hi - OK, I'm not sure if I can comment on this, as I am from Borders. However in case I can it's great to get some feedback on this. Much of this could be solved, I think, by having an online calculator, clearly showing all the steps. Enter the Amz USD price and you get the AUD price for comparison purposes. If that's OK we'll work on it.

  • Has anyone tried this out?

Found a case where the book on Amazon+shipping is 60 and borders price is 110

BD is more expensive than amazon but less expensive than borders

Just worried that i will screw up and end up paying 110 for a book i could get a lot cheaper…

  • Does anyone understand why they include a 3% international transaction fee, when you can convert your purchase to AUD on Amazon? It seems an unnecessary "extra" to me. You could always use a Wizard Clear Advantgae card if Amazon's conversion rate is bad.
