Cheapest Way to View Twitch and YouTube etc on TV

Basically just want to turn my TV into a smart tv. Preferably using only one device. I.e not casting with another phone or tablet.

  • Amazon Fire tv or android boxes

    • Which one do you recommend?

  • Android TV box. There are lots ranging from $40 ~ $100

They will all do Twitch and Youtube, the more money you spend the better the internals (more ports, more app storage space, more RAM and faster processor, probably better Wifi range as well).

The cheapest boxes will often have very patchy Wifi, this is a common symptom of budget Android boxes, so beware.

    • TV is near wifi so I think connection should be okay. What do you mean by more ports?

Just need one that can stream source twitch or 1080 youtube. Willing to go higher than $70 if need be. What are my options. Obviously not expecting Nvidia shield tv level performance.

Can the $40 do 1080 or 720p YouTube/twitch you reckon?

      • Some of them might feature ethernet and multiple USB ports to connect to external drives. If all you need to do is watching Twitch, then a basic stick with recent Android would be fine. That deal from Geekbuying would be more than enough.

  • I play YouTube using the PS3 that I already own. Check your house to see if you already own some smart devices. These can be modern PVR, DVD recorders, NAS, Media Centre, DVD players. Most modern devices that have a Network LAN port will have a built in YouTube application. Other stuff of interest are devices with external USB port or BluRay as these usually play media files from portable HDD/DVD which is the next best thing since you can use a laptop with free software to store YouTube videos onto hard drive/USB thumb drives.

  • Another one to add - an Xbox 360 console (the later version, the better). Youtube and Twitch apps are available for it and the former works well. Haven't tried Twitch yet though.

  • apple tv?
