Received a gift link from a friend in Malta for this game. He got it as part of the Humble Bundle Monthly bundle. When I try to activate it, it says this is not available in my country and the purchase is cancelled.
How can I effectively change my Steam store country? Will that help.
I have tried using browser VPNs, using Netherlands, US, and Brazil to activate the key - nothing works.
My Steam account does show though that my last login was from the US. It states that it detects I am in Australia but my last login was from US so that it does not let me change my Steam store as I can only do that from my country of residence. However, even when turning off the VPN, logging out, and logging back in (checked my IP - it is Australian), it says the same and won't let me change the Steam store.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
There's actually a few different regional versions of The Stick of Truth. The developer and publisher both knew certain scenes were going to create problems with classification boards so they took it upon themselves to voluntarily censor and create different versions:

Since your friend who gifted you the key is from Malta, I'd suggest changing your region and next few logins to any European country (except Germany, they always have a different version to the rest of the EU).
