Thief Has Stolen My Two Brand New in The Box Air Conditioning Units

I bought two brand new fujitsu AirCon.
One 3.2 KW and one 7.2 KW, left the boxes garage and waiting the professional to come and install.
Theft broke in the garage and stole the internal (the indoor part) of the 7.2 KW and then outdoor (external out door part).
The theft now left me with on internal 7.2 KW and outdoor 3.2 KW, which is useless and can’t be installed.
I have no idea why the theft would still different parts of the AirCon but now I’m stuck with parts I can’t use.
Called up fujitsu and they quoted me for the parts which cost more than I would of buy a who new set.
Do you have any suggestion?

  • Are you sure it's not a prank from your mates?

    • Yes I'm sure it's not a prank Maki :) as I have filed a police report and make the insurance claim.

  • Does home content insurance cover it?

    • Yes, it does cover it. The insurance was great and very helpful and made it very easy for me to claim.

There are so many typos in your post, could you first fix them OP?

The delivery driver?…who else would have known they were there.

It's possible but have no proof.
One thing that confuse me the most, is why would you steal something that you can't use?
I would understand if he/she stole the whole set. So he/she could install in there own house.

  • Where do you live?

    • I rather not tell, sorry dogboy :(

  • If they catch the thief, just hope they are not a pensioner! https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/225721

I would imagine thieves being not very technical could have a number of possibilities:

    1. probably thought they are stealing an entire aircon but got the boxes wrong?
    2. maybe those 2 boxes are the boxes that can fit in their vehicle?
    3. maybe thought 2 boxes = 2 aircons, didn't know that the aircons were split systems?

Thanks Geek001..I'm almost certain that it is the option number 1.
They were in a hurry so they just grab whatever they could grab.

  • Its actually a good way to get 4 air con for the price of 2 if you are insured (jk :s )

    • LOL…Not really..
Cost me $1000 extra for the excess fee.
And no..I still only have two AirConds..
The parts that gets left behind is useless and it would cost me more of buying the spare part than purchasing a whole new set.
Thinking of just listing the parts on Ebay or gumtree.

Speaking of Gumtree/Ebay … have you checked whether the parts that have gone walkabout have magically appeared on there?

        • Yes..I occasionally check to see if anyone selling my stuff on ebay or gumtree..I still have the record of the serial number.
I even check out the local cash converter but no luck so far.

  • This is not cool. er, you know what I mean.

  • Wait in the shed for the thief to come back for the rest then you can Batman them. Wear black leathers!

    damn thats bad..

you can put up posters asking the thief to swap the internal 7.2KW with your internal 3.2KW? that way you only need to buy one new set if the thief is willing to do a trade.

    • And then when the thief turns up to make the trade, you've got bikies and just take it back

  • Just curious, how did they break into your garage? Post some pictures so that I know how to defend my garage? :) Thanks.

  • They obviously didn't know your OzB user name or they might've stayed away! Poor humour:( Anyway, I'm glad you were able to claim the loss on your house insurance - but $1,000 excess is pretty steep. Just a thought….a lot of credit cards have automatic insurance cover on purchases. Therefore no excess. Maybe this applies?
