Question: Woolworths Egift Card Denied but Still Charged Multiple Times

Dear Ozbargainers,

Would like to know if anyone has experienced this before. Just an hour ago I went to a local Wooly and bought 2x24 cokes. Then I went to the staff checkout counter, tried to pay with my 1st eGift card. But it said "EFT Denial: No Manual Card" for 2 times after I entered the card number/pin twice. Then I gave up and paid with my 2nd eGift card. It worked! So I took the coke and the receipt and left.

Then I'm checking my eGift card balance now and realized that……

Date Location Type Amount Balance
16.06.2016 Woolworths, Dickson Purchase $28.18 $19.44
16.06.2016 Woolworths, Dickson Purchase $28.18 $47.62

WTH……Do I just need to go to the counter and show them the receipt, or do I have to contact the giftcard team? Any comment would be really helpful. Thanks.

  • Call them - they'll probably fix it for you quickly.

    • Maybe visiting the store will be more straight forward? I'm wondering if they will say "no that's not our fault, you have to contact XXXXX"

      • Call the egift card centre. If they say you have to visit the store - ok, but they may just fix on the phone, as you can give them the receipt number. That way you may save a trip to the store.

        • Umm, they told me that I have to contact the store, probably the best way is to visit the store. I have to pay a trip to collect a parcel at AusPost next to WOW anyway. Thanks for the advice!

  • Could rptake up to 48 hours for the $28.18 to go back to the first eGift Card. Had a similar thing happen to me with a David Jones Gift Card and their online store.

    • If that's the case it will be sweet. Sounds like a glitch and an "auto refund" stuff.

  • +1

Whenever a payment fails, be it CC or gift card, always request a receipt.

It helps as a proof and shows the error code for future investigation.

    • Gladly I have that. Thanks
