Can't Adjust Sharpness Soniq TV?

So I recently purchased the Soniq 43inch Full HD TV from JB Hi Fi, got it on the $300 deal. I connected it to my pc and am having the issue of adjusting sharpness, the sharpness along with a few other settings are greyed out in the menu option. How do I fix this? Anyone have a similar issue with soniq tvs?

  • Some settings are only available in certain modes. Typical of some Tv's and monitors.

    • I've tried all there modes, Pc,video and auto. None allow for sharpness adjustments

      • Sounds like you need to contact their helpdesk then
        https://www.soniq.com/au/contact-us

On some displays, the sharpness adjustment is only meant to be used when you are not using the native resolution (i.e. below 1920 x 1080).

Also according to Cnet the sharpness setting on most TV's is mostly used to enhance edges, and make the boundaries between dark and light areas more prominent — it creates this ugly white halo that sticks out like a sore thumb. You don't actually want to turn this up, but rather turn it off completely, or set it to neutral (no adjustment)

        • Yeah, my plan was to turn it down for better text quality through pc use

  • Does your video card support sharpness adjustment at the PC end perhaps? Check your driver settings for video card.

You could also try adjusting the cleartype settings in windows, might help. Not sure what OS you have, but here is a starting point for Win 7. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows/make-text-easier-…

    and Win 10 http://www.isunshare.com/windows-10/turn-off-or-on-clear-typ…

    • When I leave the HDMI output, it allows me to change sharpness why is this? If i can't adjust the sharpness the TV becomes a big paper wight to me

      • "when I leave the HDMI output"… can you rephrase this please, Im not sure what you mean exactly. Do you mean when you use any other input other than HDMI?

Can you disable overscan mode so that you are seeing true 1:1 pixel mapping on your TV, are any of the edges currently slightly cut off?

  • If you need to make your TV sharper, Aldi had a sharpening wheel on a few weeks back. Maybe you can find somewhere that still has one.

  • Can you let us know what cable/port your using to connect to the tv please? ie vga cable or hdmi? Just sounds odd that you'd need to use any sort of sharpness setting unless theres issues with the refresh rate or using non 1920x1080 resolution.

Have currently cheapie akai, sonic, kogan and a jvc on pc's at home and work working fine but im using either hdmi or dvi-to-hmdi cables and not the vga ports.

Do remember having an older awa brand be blurry on pc when it would auto detect and run at an obscure refresh rate instead of 60.

  • I'm having the same problem with the Soniq from the JB deal. I can't adjust the sharpness setting, even in Personal mode.

Like the OP, I'm trying to turn the sharpness setting down to 0 to improve text quality.
