Recommend Premium Scotch/Whisky/Blend for $200-$300

Hi,

I want to buy a nice bottle of scotch/whisky as a sincere thank you for helping me out for a friend. I would like it to be something pretty nice so I figure a budget of $200-300 should get me there.

Any recommendations would be really appreciated. Something I can pick up in store would be preferred cos I want to give it tomorrow.

Thanks!

Highly recommend some of the Japanese whiskies, with the added bonus of being a little different. Habiki is a lovely drop.

I'd suggest that you are probably looking at a single malt at that price range (they sell expensive blends, but it's really a waste of money). That means you would need to know what type of whisky your friend likes - Highland, Speyside, Islay, etc. That you want to get it from a store makes it even harder - the expensive stuff tends not to be in stores. You might be able to get it delivered, Dan Murphy does that.

I might go for an Islay personally, say an Ardbeg Uigeadail

    or a Bunnahabhain 12 Year

    but that's me.

What you could do is get three bottles, an Islay, a Highland, and a Speyside - each under a $100. You'd then cover the bases, be able to find them instore, and give your friend more to drink !

if its a thankyou for a friend and he is a regular scotch drinker then
I would guess he would be really stoked if you got him a Johnie Walker Blue

If it's for the sake of just getting him a scotch get him Johnny Blue. If you know your mate better and know his tastes in scotch get a single malt. If you want something different get a Japanese whisky

Agree with Adz81 on the Japs. Brands like Suntory, Yamazaki are good and had some rewards.

  • Thanks for the feedback guys. Ended up getting him a bottle of Irish whisky for around 130 and decided to give some cash on top. Figured that some of you were right re not knowing his preference and money goes a lot further than booze ;)
