Uber promo code overseas

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew of where to find Uber promo codes for those travelling overseas.

For example, I'm going to Malaysia and I want to get an uber promo code as I'll have a new phone number. Thanks

Uber is a waste of time in Malaysia, and pretty much all of South East Asia.

Better off with a regular cab.

    • how come? More expensive or no one wants to pick you up?

      • Expensive, not many cars, cars take ages to get to you because of the traffic.

I had the opposite experience in Malaysia. Also dirt cheap in China. YMMV

        • True that some cars take a long time to get to you. Marginally cheaper than some taxis in most cases - Like oldm8 says though, Grab I heard is better in SE Asia

Despite that all being true in my experience I still prefer using apps.

Taxis in SE Asia are dirt cheap. That is, if you pay the correct metered price. But we don't live in a fantasy land where SE Asian taxi drivers follow the law.

Traffic throughout SE Asia is so bad that it does seem stupid to order a vehicle to get to you from 3 blocks away at 10 minutes per block. But if time is on your side it's worth it. I love not pulling out my wallet.

If you're in Malaysia check out Grab as well, covers some places Uber doesn't and is marginally cheaper.

    • Do you know anyone who has a Grab promo code? Travelling from KLIA this week but there doesn't seem to be any promo codes. Does anyone have a referral code? :D

You may have already seen, Grab is flat 65 MYR ~ 22 AUD to Klang Valley (inc Kuala Lumpur City). If you're travelling alone I'd recommend the high speed train to the city train as it'll be faster, but once you're in a group of 2 or more Grab will be cheaper.

I'm having trouble getting referrals to work in my app at the moment (probably because I'm in Oz and trying to get it to give me a referral code for MYR). Anyway I'm pretty sue its against OzB rules to post referrals in comments(?).

        • Cheers! Wish there was a way to find other random people on the same flight as me who need a ride into the city! my last resort will be literally calling out at the airport if anyone wants to hitch a ride with me and split the bill

        • @markj: There are a ton of very cheap busses that ply the route.

Check out some and their prices (and loads of other transport options in Singapore/Malaysia) out at Easybook, though you're probably better off just buying a ticket at the airport.

I tried GRAB in SE Asia but didn't have a local SIM card so didn't work. Uber is great in SE Asia if you can get it, it is still cheaper than local taxis (sometimes half price eg. in VN) and what I like about it is if you suspect the driver has taken you the scenic route you can dispute it with Uber and they will refund you if needed as all trips are tracked point A to B and driver should have gone most direct route. For those that think - oh you're in Asia who cares a dollar here and there - sometimes we were ripped off by over $20 if we were going to/from a far away airport, sure $20 won't kill us but that is a meal I could be having elsewhere! ow do I know I was ripped off? I compared same trip with my uber receipt. I'd try social media for any local promo codes in particular countries uber have their own local handle.

    • Yeah, Grab is great - I have a local SIM. KLIA to KL is 65 RM however what I didn't know is that there fares don't include tolls
