Is this a good deal on an a used intel NUC?

Hi Guys,
I'm in the market for a NUC to connect to the tv in the living room. Will just use it for torrenting and watching movies, youtube etc.

Here is the advert I came across below.
The guy wants $390 for it

  • I noticed he put the same ad yesterday and then in few hours marked as sold then this morning re listed.
    Hmmmm…

  • Hi,

Parts are around $350 new if you exclude windows 10 pro which might not be completely legit. It could be a pirate copy or $50 MSDN key instead of a legit OEM $200 Microsoft windows 10 key.

However, if you're looking to use it in the living room, you would be probably be better off with Kodi/Ubuntu (free) than windows 10 Pro anyway.

  • Ignore the RRP for what it is: a meaningless number created to skew yours sense of value.

Check how much you can buy it all new if you bought it right now.

    Check how much second hand.

To me it seems to much (but I haven't done the above).

    • Yeah as usual sellers are high ballers and put high price
      Buyers will be low balling.

      Human nature.

  • Might give this a miss as you guys don't seem to think it's that great a dealio.

Any other suggestions? Happy to assemble it myself. Don't really want to pay more than $400.

I've heard you can get a cheap legit windows 7 off eBay then get it upgraded to Win 10 for free.

I did think about the kodi option but this is mainly for my Mrs. who is used to the Windows platform so can't be dealing with the hassles of teaching her a new OS.

    Thanks for your helps guys.

i also heard pigs could fly

    • The family have been using kodi on a 4+gb ram/120gb+ ssd nuc with a $50 logitech universal remote for years and we're all very happy with it. (approx $400).

  • But are these pigs a bargain?

      Also you said:

Come on man, you can easily do this on any operating system. Search OpenElec

You can also go GeekBuy or Aliexpress or similar and buy yourself a Chinese Windows 10 box with Z8300 SOC.
They are generally underpowered and don't have much local storage, but they are only $120 AUD.
