Unauthorised Transaction by Real Estate Agent

I noticed an unauthorised transaction on my online banking over the weekend from my real estate agent. This is odd because the agent has confirmed that they do not have any direct debits set up for tenants and they have no facilities to debit tenants accounts.

As a consequence of this my bank has had to cancel my card and raise a Visa dispute which can take up to 45 days to investigate. Also, I have not been to the agents office for 9 months but somehow my card has been debited?

Does anyone have any idea how this could have happened? Am I likely to get my money back?

Would suggest for you to ring them. Seems odd.. Do you normally pay rent by that card?

    • I do. But I pay my rent from the same card at the post office. The money is debited from my account and credited to the agent. It's odd because I haven't used my card there and they tell me they don't have facilities to debit my account but they bank is saying they did debit it????

Definitely a phone call or email. Hopefully it's a glitch somewhere.

        • Thank you, I have emailed the agent to ask about the transaction and to advise that my card has had to be cancelled. It is not the best time for this either. When I need money I have to go and withdraw it at the bank.

If it helps they'll get a chargeback fee of around $35 to pay.

    • As much as that? This issue could take 45 days to resolve.

Is it equivalent to a weeks rent or more, or a specific charge like $150 or a random such as $226.52
