Mail Sent to Old Address, Landlord Won't Respond to Email for Return

Dear ozbargainers,

I have move from my previous sharehouse. I signed up to auspost redirect mail. However, recently there has been one overseas parcel that as not redirected. It was delivered to my old address. I sent an email to the landlord about arranging a time to pick up the parcel. She won't respond. This is the email she primarily uses to communicate with me during the time I stayed there.

Any advice what can I do to get my parcel back?

I had suggestion from legal aid to send a email for notice of demand. And see if she responds.

Suggestions and advice greatly appreciated.

Cheers gys.

Do you have her number? If you do, give her a call and sort it out.

    • blocked - can't ring her

You can't access any other phone numbers? You can't call from work, someone else's phone? Put '1831' before the number to block yours.

This is a civil matter and a small one at that.

The landlord has most likely RTS'd the package and had every right to do so.

How far is the old place to where you are and are you still in contact with any of the other tenants?

I think the package being returned to sender is the most you can hope for.

    • RTS? Return to sender?

What if she did not RTS? and takes the parceL?

Not in contact - crazy landlord

Ok why has she blocked your number? Presumably she has blocked your email as well. Were you abusive or something or is she just being difficult?

The only thing you can do is go there and ask her nicely to return it to you. Explain politely that you sent it to your old address by mistake.

Also how do you know it was delivered? If SHE signed for it then go after the courier for leaving it at the wrong address.

How much is the parcel worth? If it's less than $100 let it go.

@Olokun I disagree. Yes she has every right to but doing so is a d*** move. If what the OP says is true the goods could have been ordered months ago…

The correct thing to do would be for her to send the OP an email, give them a week to come and grab it, otherwise she'll RTS it.

Apologies I didn't read your previous thread. (You might want to add the back story for other people's reference)

Just go around there and demand your property back. If she doesn't comply call the cops and say that she has your property.

  • Was the package to be signed for on delivery?
If not you might be boned. Landlord can claim they didn't receive it.

  • Send some bikies round to collect it

If you want to get to the bottom of this do as follows:

Take a crap in luncbbox and send it to yourself at old address. In the return address put your current residence. Seal up the box good. Nice and precious.

If your receive back the item unopened, good landlord.

If you never receive item back, KEK-she copped one. Further parcels RTS.

If you ever receive another lunch box that isn't your own - do not open.

    • The truth.

I would go around to the house and ask for the package. See what they say. I don't get the whole email thing, I would be getting myself to the actual place and confronting them…assuming you checked the tracking and it definitely was received there and not sent back
