Harvey Norman Energy - Any Reviews?

Hi everyone,

Just got a call from Harvey Norman Energy asking me to switch to their electricity and gas plans.

Rates to my area in VIC:

Electricity:
Supply: $1.22/day
Usage: 17.11c/unit (after the 35% discount)

Gas:
Supply: 63.81 c/day
Usage: <3000 MJ: 1.64c/MJ (after 15% discount)

3000 MJ: 1.29c/MJ (after 15% discount)

All this with no contracts/lock ins.

According to my calculations, the electricity rates are similar to my Powershop rates, theres a 20% savings for gas against my current provider.

My question is - How do these rates sound? Any reviews for Harvey Norman energy? Anyone here using it already? Anything to note/watch out for? Cheers guys.

What normally happens is they offer a good rate to get you to sign up and then gradually increase the rates (gradual enough that you can't be bothered investigating) while offering higher discount to new sign-ups.

    • Good point - but dont they have to let us know before they do that?

I got a similar deal from Orgin. On reading the T&C the discount was only for one year.
I think most of will realize this only after we get the bill.

  • Apply the general rule of cold calls: if they called you, and you didn't ask them to, it's probably not a good deal. Check how long those discounts last. For the first month? For the first quarter?

  • PROFESSIONALS

  • Be mindful that they may charge exit fee/meter reading fee when you want to chnage provider

    • Yup actually asked her this, she said there were no costs to leave HN Energy if required.

      • If required, but what if you just want to leave but aren't actually required to?

  • If it's anything like their shops every time you go in with intention to buy, or wanting assistance, all the staff will mysteriously vanish. Then additionally every other weekend they'll be having a massive sale and no deposit, interest free payment plans that cost you more in the long run.
